And a book...

About the Book
On November 22, 1963 three great men died within a few hours of each other: C.S. Lewis, John F. Kennedy and Aldous Huxley. All three believed, in different ways, that death is not the end of human life. Suppose they were right, and suppose they met after death. How might the conversation go?

Peter Kreeft imagines their discourse as a modern Socratic dialog--a part of The Great Conversation that has been going on for centuries. Does human life have meaning? Is it possible to know about life after death? What if one could prove that Jesus was God?

Combining logical argument and literary imagination, Kreeft portrays Lewis as a Christian theist, Kennedy as a modern humanist and Huxley as an Eastern pantheist. Their interaction involves not only good thinking but good drama.

Spooky. I didn't know that.

That book sounds like it's worth reading.

Tomorrow, I'll rev up my Amazon account.

Thanks.

Amazing. I was glued to the tube all day on the 22nd (after the assassination, of course), 23rd and 24th, and I don't recall them making even ONE mention of Lewis and Huxley. 'Course, in those days, I probably didn't even know who Lewis and Huxley were!

hmmm....as Colson says....

Only CS Lewis work is permanently enduring and still changes lives.

My own son has discovered Lewis profound words and is a better person for it.

I would have known who they were and I didn't hear one word about them dying the same day. I think that I still have the Philadelphia Inquirer from the next day. I will have to check it out.

HAHAHAHAHA!

The Brave New World was an awesome book. It's hard to believe it was written so long ago when you read it today.

I still think pretty highly of Huxley. I don't need to agree with an author 100% to value him and BNW is the most likely of the original distopia novels. "1984" and "We" (by Zamyatin) were very grim put were pulled right out of the present state when they were written. Both were simply exaggerations of the Stalinist horror then going on. Huxley's BNW was a negative utopia with a sugar coating of comfort and luxury but the spiritual rot was just beneath the surface. Good stuff still.

I read most of Aldous Huxley's books when I was in college and "experimenting".
His book, The Doors of Perception, was where Jim Morrison got the name for the band.

Did you know that on the day he died, Huxley requested and was given an obscene amount of LSD?
I always thought that was a weird way to go.

Sometimes when a famous person dies it takes a number of days before it is announced to the public. Recently Art Carney died and I think the public announcement was 3 or 4 days after his funeral. It's possible that the passing of Lewis or Huxley wasn't made public until a week later. Perhaps it is. Let us know what you find.

I never thought JFK was a great man. I did not like him then and have never seen anything to cause me to like him. In fact, the more I learn about him the less I like him.

C.S. Lewis said that he didn't want people to make a big fuss over his death. He got his wish, dying on 11/22/1963.

Sounds interesting. CS Lewis' "Mere Christianity" helped me change my way of thinking about my faith. A wonderful little book.

I have the the Dec. 2 newspaper also, because my father died that night, just a little over a week after Kennedy, as well as the year in review issue from Dec 31, 1963. I didn't save them, I think my brother must have. I was too young to have thought of it, but I have them now.
