Gov. Joe Kernan today canceled a contract with an overseas company hired to upgrade state computers and announced plans to create a new program to steer more contracts to Indiana businesses.

The initiative, dubbed "Opportunity Indiana," will involve reviewing procedures used to award state contracts.

Finally, someone has common sense. The governor cancelled the contract but it does not mean that Tata cannot compete for the contract again. Will have to wait and see what happens next.

Tata does not hire Americans and often brings in L-1 visa holders who do not pay taxes. Many other multimillion dollar contracts have been given by various state to this company that blatantly discriminates against US citizens. Someone ought to file a class action lawsuit against them.

Personally, I think in situations like this (above), it is very important for the media to ignore this story and cover Michael Jackson, and for those elected to lead our country to ignore the story and instead focus on increasing FREE TRADE (higher prices for consumers and lower wages and less jobs for Americans) which puts BIG COIN in their pocket and keeps them in office.

I know about Tata and really believe that this company may be paying kickbacks. Why else would it be necessary to review the contract award procedures.

EMC announced yesterday another 100 million dollars will be going to research and development in India. This is not the low level tech jobs, but the jobs that determine the future of the tech industry.

I don't live in Indiana, but I have to agree that this would definitely be of more importance that Michael Jackson!! I think anything is more important than the MJ story!! IMHO, we focus far too much on wacko celebrities!!

I'm glad to see that someone is standing up to the idea that everything done offshore is better and cheaper than the same things done here.

Buried among all these stories about American dollars and jobs going offshore, has been a few articles about the crappy level of work being performed by the offshore companies, often requiring American companies to repair the damage done for an additional cost of as much as 50 - 75% of the original development budget. I'm waiting for some bean counter, somewhere, to wake up and smell the hemorrhaging revenue and profit margins slipping under the door and putting a halt to it.
