Bassist Novoselic May Run for Lt. Gov.

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 3:02 p.m. ET

SEATTLE (AP) -- Nirvana co-founder and bassist Krist Novoselic, who announced in August that he was fed up with the music industry, says he may run for Washington state lieutenant governor.

Already active in Democratic party circles, Novoselic indicated he was wary about challenging two-term Lt. Gov. Brad Owen, also a Democrat and occasional rock musician, but doesn't want to remain on the sidelines in 2004 and has been talking to party leaders.

``I've been really contemplating how I want to get involved next year and make a contribution,'' the 38-year-old told The Seattle Times. ``It's going to be a big year and I'm trying to find a way to fit into it.''

The largely ceremonial position has few duties other than presiding over the state Senate and being ready to fill in when the governor is out of the state or incapacitated, and celebrities have filled it in the past.

John A. Cherberg, a former University of Washington football coach, held the post from 1957-89. A colorful band leader, Victor A. Meyers, was lieutenant governor from 1933-53 and later was state secretary of state for eight years.

Owen, a former state senator and convenience store owner, has campaigned against drug abuse and performed at schools in a rock 'n' roll band.

He was out of town and unavailable for comment Wednesday, but his chief of staff, Glenn Dunnam, said Owen will soon announce his bid for a third term.

I guess after Sweet 75, politics was the only way he could sink further.

Great. A guy who can easily be replaced by a piece of electronics, wants to get a real job. I thought real work was what the grungies were trying to avoid?

The Lt. Governorship of Washington is not a real job.

Did you ever see him on the mtv awards show when Nirvanna played live, after the end of the song this dork throws his bass guitar up in the air and just stares up at it as it travelled upwards, it then came crashing back down on to his face and knocked him out. Doesnt understand the basic laws of gravity ...but yep...he would make a good democrap lt. governor.

Here's a representative sample of his intellect:

DO YOU AGREE WITH THE PEOPLE (I'M ONE OF THEM) WHO SYS THAT YOUR CAREER WAS OVER WHEN KURT DIED?
Charif-Pierre Megarbane, via e mail

I don't know. What's a ****ing career? I bet it's a lot better fun than whatever this Charif-Pierre guy's doing.

DID KURT COBAIN HAVE ANY BAD HABITS LIKE PICKING HIS NOSE?
Diana Flint, via e mail

That's so asinine. I mean, you want to know that? Diana Flint can just go **** off asking questions like that. [Adopts goofy voice] Did he pick his nose? **** off, Diana.

No need to duck. Nirvana stunk, and the smell of those little creeps lingers to this day.

My lord!...and all this time I thought it was just me.
You mean to tell me I am not alone in finding Nivaaaana to be some mediocre "impress your friends, tick off your parents" schitk?

I have always wondered why this stupid little band is still the subject of a 5 hour documentry...heck, the retrospectives are better and have more staying power than the band!

And yes, I'm from the 90's. Nirvana was just another band then, and just another band now. The only reason anyone still plays their cr@p is because Kurt "used to be famous, now he's dead" Cobain offed himself.
