The Chinese government moves very swiftly on issues like this one. Almost overnight they banned the little two-cycle, mega polluting scooters in many cities and following 9/11 they swiftly banned anyone from 21 Middle Eastern countries from entering China for a period of approximately three months.

From being a net exporter of oil to net importer and dependent on the Middle East is not a position they want to be in. Honda and Toyota are about to get a bump up in Chinese auto market.

"G.M. and other automakers have also contended in the United States that higher gasoline taxes would represent a better policy than higher gas mileage standards, because it would give drivers an economic incentive to choose more efficient vehicles and to drive fewer miles."

What kind of idiotic thinking does this represent? What kind of manufacturer wants consumers to use less of their product?

Leave it to the politically correct, dumbed down, advanced degreed socialists that run America's largest corporations.
