[history]
Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee have worked in close concert with outside special-interest groups to defeat President Bush's judicial nominees, according to internal Democratic staff memos.
In one memo to Sen. Richard J. Durbin of Illinois obtained by The Washington Times, Washington lawyer Miguel A. Estrada is singled out as "especially dangerous" because "he is Latino." Mr. Estrada, born in Honduras, withdrew his nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in September after being filibustered for eight months.

Being a long suffering Illinois resident, I am SOOOO loving this.
Think of the campaign commercials with a close-up of this
racist memo with senator Dustbin's fat face beside it,
then one with Ted the Swimmer calling women (one of whom is black)
nominated by the President to sit on the federal bench "Neanderthals".
Priceless. :)

Durbin spokesman Joe Shoemaker said the memo has been taken out of context. "That's a list of what the groups saw as dangerous positives," Mr. Shoemaker said. "In their opinion, Miguel Estrada was especially dangerous from a political standpoint for Democrats because they wouldn't want to vote against him for those very reasons." That would be plausible, IF that was the only factor listed. But look at the memo context: "They also identified Miguel Estrada (D.C. Circuit) as especially dangerous, because he has a minimal paper trail, he is Latino, and the White House seems to be grooming him for a Supreme Court appointment."
How would having a "minimal paper trail" and appearing to be groomed for SCOTUS make Democrats scared to vote against him?

Ah, the devastating "Avalanche of Memos". "Revenge of the Memos". Memos, memos, memos! Soon, Democrat politicians will be having nightmares about MEMOS! Memos burying them up to their corrupt eyebrows, and more and more keep coming! They can't deny them fast enough, they keep on coming! MEMOS!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! The Democrat leaders will be waking up in a cold sweat, fearing what new revelation of their corruption and perfidy will be exposed in today's NEXT Memo?!
In the old days, it was "hey no problem" ... a phone call or three to the News Media heads, and they would look past a leaked memo or two. But, these are the new and very DANGEROUS days of the "Alternative Conservative Media". These leaked memos, about Durbin, Kennedy and the Democrat Filibuster's lies, about Rockefeller's treasonous plan to use classified intel to destroy Bush, and the memo proving that Al Qaida was working hand in glove with Saddam, or vice-a-versa, are going to be electronically blogged all over the internet. Fox News will hit the Cable with coverage of all these memos, and Rush has MUCHO materiel for a triumphant return to the radio airwaves on Monday. Daschle must be deeply saddened. If not yet... he soon will be.
VIVA LA MEMO DE LAS VERTIAS!
To: kattracks
I heard about this today. Conservatives need to turn up the volume on this revelation! The good news is that, as rush predicted, being out of power, the Dims are going out of their minds, getting more shrill than ever, and they are starting to make significant blunders.

"There's been this rash of stolen Democratic memos by Republicans recently,"... David Smith sure wants folks to think the memos were stolen by Republicans. If he had proof of his claim, I would think his lard-a$$ed, liquor-swilling boss would be shouting the thief's name from the rooftops.
It's more likely to be an old-school Democrat who's totally disgusted with what his (her) party has become.

Mr. Smith also said the leaked documents raised serious questions about Republican tactics. "There's been this rash of stolen Democratic memos by Republicans recently," he said, citing the memo written by a staffer to Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV, West Virginia Democrat, that strategized to make political hay out of the Iraq war. "These are thefts of Democratic memos," Mr. Smith said. And I hope they get their hands on more illuminating memos.

Democrats on the Judiciary Committee have long proclaimed their independence from outside interest groups and angrily deny accusations that they considered the race of Mr. Bush's nominees before blocking them. So, if they are claiming that those "groups" are not involved in their "process," I suppose it was just a coincidence that EVERY SINGLE ONE of those "outside interest groups" just HAPPENED to be in the press room at the United States Capital yesterday morning immediately after the "Senate Sleepover" finished, right?
And I suppose we can assume that, rather than proclaiming their independence from those groups by not offering them the chance to speak, those "outside interest groups" grabbed the microphone from Tom Daschle, commandeered the floor, and practically jumped for joy at what they perceived as a victory for "their" side?

I'm thinking this was strategery - international news for the 30-hour fillibuster due to the judicial nominees, and lo and behold, they were right.
Looks like they gave the Dems rope...looks like they hanged themselves en masse.
They had an out, though. Up or down vote. They chose suicide.
