Succession of Blasts Heard in Baghdad

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A succession of blasts, up to two dozen, have echoed across the Iraqi capital, Reuters witnesses report.

The location of the blasts on Wednesday night was not immediately clear, but insurgents in the past 10 days have fired mortars and rockets at the sprawling compound where the U.S.-led administration has its headquarters on the west side of the Tigris River.

U.S. army officials had no immediate comment.

Iraqi residents near the heavily fortified compound which houses U.S. military bases and the headquarters of the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) ruling Iraq said they had not heard any explosions from inside the area.

Night-time mortar attacks have underscored the growing boldness of guerrillas confronting U.S.-led occupation forces in Iraq, more than six months after President George W. Bush declared major combat over on May 1.

Reuters spin. They know it's JDAMs, but they want to try and portray it like these are more opposition attacks, the US has lost control, etc.

Daisy cutters today. Lots of explosions. Right outside of Bagdad. Terrorist building.
CNN reported. There were a lot of thunder boomers. I guess it's time to quit fooling around over there.

CNN is covering it right now -Bradly fighting vehicles. Calling it a U.S. military operation. Buildings were used by insurgents carrying out attacks on the U.S.
New offencive started. We're bringing the fight to them. Getting tough, more aggressive.

I hope the US creates a 3-mile dead zone around that whole godforsaken pesthole "Baghdad" and kills anything crossing it without a search. It might just come down to that. Time to get serious!

Night-time mortar attacks have underscored the growing boldness of guerrillas

The numbers if infiltrators has grown and they have a thirst for violence. They will force a showdown if they keep this up, and they will lose. They intend to keep this up until all moderate Muslims are dead. The plan is that eventually no one will be left except radical, immoral, godless Islamicists. The plan will fail mightily and permanently, as it always does for the forces of Evil.

Military Intelligence seems to be improving day by day. This is probably due to improving communication with the locals.

I think so. The rest of Iraq is doing great. It's just the triangle of terrorism that's stopping the nation from becomming free.

Counter Battery fire directed by RADAR [first perfected in Korea].

Looks like those Islamofascist types haven't learned to "shoot and scoot"!

Improving communications with locals and better operational security. Losing the senior Warrant officer and senior NCO in the JAG was a wakeup call. Had the first blackhawk been shot down, the 2 star in charge of the JAG would have been killed.

It's time to leave crime fighting to the Iraqi police and keep the killing of Saddamites to US forces.
