WHAT: On Wednesday, November 12, the House of Representatives and leaders of the American Muslim community will hold a Ramadan iftar, or fast breaking, on Capitol Hill.
WHEN: Wednesday, November 12, 4:45 - 6:30 p.m.
WHERE: House Judiciary Committee Hearing Room, 2141 Rayburn House Office Building, Washington, D.C.
The iftar is being co-hosted by Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.), Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.), and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Cafli.).
"This important event will provide an excellent opportunity for elected officials and congressional staffers to learn more about the American Muslim community and the significance of Ramadan," said Hasan Mansori, governmental relations coordinator for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). "It will also send a message of tolerance and respect for religious diversity."
The Capitol Hill iftar will include breaking of the fast with water and dates, the call to prayer (adhan), the Islamic sunset prayer (maghrib), an ecumenical prayer by a Muslim religious leader, and remarks by the congressional hosts.
CAIR, America's largest Muslim civil liberties group, is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and has 25 offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada

So Kucinich has given up on having a TV reality show get him a woman, and he's starting to position himself for 72 virgins?

Shouldn't the title be "Happy Holidays"?
Christmas now being politically incorrect, I'd assume that religious celebrations of other persuasions would also be out of line.

How soon until this is a national Hallmark holiday in the United States....I'll give it five years. Happy Ram-it-down-our-throats day. Very telling that the co-hosts are all Dumbocrats.

respect for religious diversity But just don't ever mention...GOD!!

I can see you have the same PC sh*t going on down there as we do up here. Our city hall changed the name of our Christmas tree to a 'holiday tree' to make the imms feel more included.
Is that sick or what?
I will go out of my way now to celebrate Christmas in the most obnoxiously Christian way I can. I'm gonna hang up crucifixes, nativity scenes, lights, Jesus, Mary all over the front of my place.

"It will also send a message of tolerance and respect for religious diversity." Americans are already tolerant, and have been for a long time. The fact that all Islamists weren't deported immediately after 9/11 is proof of that, as is the fact they we still open our doors/borders to them. Shouldn't this message of "tolerance and religious diversity" be spread in Muslim countries instead?

You can mention god in the abstract. But the second you mention Jesus in a serious or reverent tone, you risk being labeled a close-minded bigot. ABC - anything but Christ.

The Defence Department said it was distressed by the ''thoughtless graffiti'' which did not reflect American views....President Bill Clinton said the US had deliberately avoided starting the air assault against Iraq during the month of Ramadan because this would have been offensive to Muslims worldwide.
