Call for Britons to shout down Bush From correspondents in London November 11, 2003
MICHAEL Moore, author, filmmaker and satirical nemesis of George W Bush, urged Britons overnight to take to the streets by the tens of thousands to protest the US president's visit to London.
In town to promote his new book, Dude, Where's My Country?, Moore quipped he was the "advance man" for next week's first-ever, full-dress state visit to Britain by a US president.
"Bush has been using the British people now for the better half of a year as a cover essentially to say, 'See, it's not just us, the Brits are with us'" in Iraq, Moore told reporters at the offices of his British publisher Penguin.
"You need to expose the lie just by your presence, and by showing the American people that in fact, the British people don't support this," argued the best-selling writer, documentary maker and political activist.
"I think British citizens have a very important job helping us to remove Bush next year from office," he added.

I was at the University of Michigan in the autumn of 1985, when then VP George H.W. Bush came to give a speech. The leftist activists staged a protest, attempting to drown him out.
This achieved 2 things. 1. Bush showed a playful, unstiff side I hadn't seen from him -- especially when a bunch of us started chanting "Bush in '88!" loud enough for him to hear. 2. The reaction from many apolitical students, who had just wanted the opportunity to hear a famous person speak, resulted in the leftist radicals being defeated in the Student Assembly elections the next spring. (Mind you, the year after that, the left was back in.)
So let the British Left try to drown out Bush. The most likely result is that it will get the Conservative party a few more votes the next time the UK has an election.
