US Stats Show Sex Outside of Marriage is Leading Cause of Abortion

Washington, DC, Nov. 6 (LifesiteNews.com/CWN) - A new report by the US government's National Center for Health Statistics indicates that sex outside marriage is a major contributing factor to the 1.3 million abortions for 1999. Of the 6.28 million pregnancies in 1999 there were about 3.96 million live births, 1.31 million induced abortions, and 1 million fetal losses (miscarriages and stillbirths), says the report.

Comparing married and unmarried women on abortion, the report indicates that the abortion rate for unmarried women is over four times higher than that of married women. Looking at pregnancies among married women, three out of four ended in a live birth in 1999, and 7 percent ended in abortion.

However, among unmarried women about half the pregnancies ended in a live birth while about 40 percent ended in abortion. In 1990, pregnancies among unmarried women were more likely to end in abortion than in a live birth.

Actually, 40% v 7%, means the rate is over five times higher in unmarrieds, rather than four, as the article states.

what's really staggering is that among blacks in the US, 80% of babies are born out of wedlock...well, at least they're getting born...BTW..we've had all this "wonnderful" sex education in the schools free condoms...instructions with bananas... and everywhere else for years..so why isn't it working....

The most sobering statistic for me is the overall percentage of abortions in relation to pregnancies. 1.31 million abortions out of 6.28 million pregnancies is over 20%. We kill 1 out of every five babies conceived.

Which suggests that blacks are a substantial proportion of the unmarried pregnancies that end in birt, not abortion.

I would not be surprised if the abortion rate among unmarried white women was close to or exceeded 50%. For college educated (or college-bound) unmarried white women, I'd bet the abortion rate is close to 90%.

It took a government study to figure out that single women are more likely to have abortions than married women? I wonder how much it cost us taxpayers to find out this shocking truth?

Well DUH. But this study is still wrong. The leading cause of abortion is capricious mothers-to-be with insufficient moral fiber to not murder their baby.
