Senator Condemns Efforts to Politicize 9/11 Inquiry, Says Staffers Should Be Fired

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee for eight years ending in 2002, today issued the following statement following disclosure of a Democratic strategy memo which plots to use classified intelligence information to wage a political attack on President Bush:

“This strategy memo lays bare what we’ve started to see for some time: an orchestrated effort by Democrats at a time of war to improperly use an intelligence investigation as a weapon against President Bush. The memo completely shreds Democrats’ claims of bipartisanship in this investigation and falsely attributes ugly motives to the President, members of his administration, and fellow members of Congress. It has reached conclusions about this investigation before it’s even been concluded.

“The Senate should examine whether its rules have been violated by this memo. It is, for example, improper under Senate rules to impugn the motives of fellow Senators. Additionally, committee staff should never be involved in partisan political scheming, most especially Intelligence Committee staff members, who in the past have always acted in a nonpolitical, bipartisan fashion.

“If Senators continue to attribute this memo to staff, then those staff members should be fired. Additionally, I call on Senator Rockefeller and Senate Democratic leaders to immediately disassociate themselves from this partisan attack plan. A failure to denounce this memo publicly would clearly seem to be an acknowledgement of its authenticity.”

I really hope the Republicans can extract a pound of flesh over this, but they aren't too good about playing hardball.

No, I think it is time to get rid of all of these bastards! Democrats and Republican alike. They do not represent us, only themselves.

I expect the Senate Intelligence Committee to prevent this attack on the President of the United States who is leading a war against terrorists.

I expect the Senate Intelligence Committee to insure that members of the committee are worthy of being entrusted with the most classified information.

I don't expect the same committee members to allow friendships to cloud their duty to the President, to the country and to the war efforts.

I just fired off a copy of this press release to my senators Cornyn and Hutchison. Told them the democrats are traitors to America and ask what are you going to do about it. Also, said I'm sick to death of bipartisenship, I want them to treat democrats like the enemy they are. I want victory.

Thye'll get away with it, just like always. The people are powerless to stop them, because our "representatives" will not.

If ever there was a cause for repealing the 17th amendment and returning control of the Senate to the states, then this is it.

In my opinion, an elected Senate results in national bloc politics where party affiliation is more important than state representation. National bloc politics enables the flow of money to state races (33 of the most expensive campaigns every two years), making party affiliation mandatory in order to compete. If we eliminate the elections and let the states appoint their own Senators, we will dilute the power of the national parties to influence politics because the states will likely appoint from within their own legislative bodies. The appointed Senators will be more beholden to the legislatures which sent them to Washington than to special interests whose money sent them, especially knowing that the legislatures can refuse to reappoint them if they fail to represent the states.

To me, the most imporant problem with the Senate is that 99% of what they do is outside the scope of the Consitution. The Senate should merely vote up and down on house bills, not create their own and go to "conference comittee", etc.

"Dick" Durbin and Babs Milkulski on the "Intelligence" Committee. Holy oxymoron, Batman! /humor>

Seriously, it looks like CWII is beginning to warm up when even the fossilized senators are beginning to notice the treason occurring under their very noses.

Jeez, the LA Times had a story on it today.

Not a peep in the paper of the fourth largest city in America, the Houston Chronicle.

Has there been an AP story?

It certainly is a tacit admission. Somebody needs to call a press conference and put the press in the position of either actively conspiring to suppress the news, or forcing them to report it in fear that a competitor will.

This is the same press that made a big deal about one of Rep. Joe Barton's aides sending a gleeful email about redistricting in Texas. This story is only about 1000 times bigger, involving the national security of the USA.
