Text of Green River Killer's Confession
TBO ^ | 11-05-03

From statement of Green River killer Gary Ridgway, read in court Wednesday by prosecutor Jeff Baird:

I killed the 48 women listed in the state's second amended information. In most cases when I killed these women I did not know their names. Most of the time I killed them the first time I met them and I do not have a good memory of their faces. I killed so many women I have a hard time keeping them straight.

I have reviewed information and discovery about each of the murders with my attorneys and I am positive that I killed each one of the women charged in the second information. I killed them all in King County. I killed most of them in my house near Military Road, and I killed a lot of them in my truck not far from where I picked them up.

I killed some of them outside. I remember leaving each woman's body in the place where she was found.

I have discussed with my attorneys the common scheme or plan, aggravating circumstance charged in all of these murders. I agree that each of the murders I committed was part of a common scheme or plan. The plan was I wanted to kill as many women I thought were prostitutes as I possibly could.

I picked prostitutes as my victims because I hate most prostitutes and I did not want to pay them for sex. I also picked prostitutes as victims because they were easy to pick up without being noticed. I knew they would not be reported missing right away and might never be reported missing. I picked prostitutes because I thought I could kill as many of them as I wanted without getting caught.

Another part of my plan was where I put the bodies of these women. Most of the time I took the women's jewelry and their clothes to get rid of any evidence and make them harder to identify. I placed most of the bodies in groups which I call clusters. I did this because I wanted to keep track of all the women I killed.

I liked to drive by the clusters around the county and think about the women I placed there. I usually used a landmark to remember a cluster and the women I placed there. Sometimes I killed and dumped a woman intending to start a new cluster and never returned because I thought I might get caught putting more women there.

They've been after this guy for so long it's hard to believe they finally caught him, but he sure seems the real deal. The prosecutor hasn't ruled out the death penalty despite the cooperation.

Because he cut a deal with prosecutors. If he owns up to it the cases they can clear all of them and it saved them the expense and risk of a jury trial. This way, they got their man, they got those cases cleared and he never gets out of jail.

I suppose they saw something positive in it...

They're not going to kill this guy? Were they just feeling particularly good on the day they made the deal?

An author by the name of Dr. Robert Hare wrote an excellent book for layman on the subject of psychopaths. This guy is probably the best expert on the subject you will find. When he wrote the book back in 1993, he estimated that there were 2 million psychopaths in North America alone. Fortunately, being a psychopath doesn't necessarily mean you are also a serial killer. On the other hand, most if not all, serial killers are psychopaths. The truth of the matter is that serial killers are rare.

I read somewhere that the prosecutors were worried about some of the cases. I didn't remember too many of the details but they were uncertain in some areas and this was a better way for them to clear it up.

"The prosecutor hasn't ruled out the death penalty despite the cooperation."

Won't matter.

Like California, Washington has a death penalty it refuses to carry out unless it's absolutely forced to. I think about 3 have been executed since the DP was reinstated. The remainder on death row die of old age.

Hmmm. I understand how you feel. It could be though that with over 40 cases it works out cheaper to house him for life than to take all those to court.

Ridgway murdered 48 women and will be allowed to live. Terri Schiavo, who has harmed no one, whose only "crime" is being hurt herself, will most likely be executed.

The men who are bent on murdering Terri -- Michael Schiavo, George Felos, Judge Greer -- these men are more false, more treacherous, more cruel than the sociopathic Ridgway.

It’s much cheaper for the state to just match him up with a freelance executioner in prison, like they did to Dahmer.

And it's much more scary when you consider the fact that Gary Ridgway isn't even a Muzzel-em !!!

I can understand why they agreed to a plea deal, but it still pisses me off. This guy kills scores of people and gets away with it. Sure, he'll be locked up for the rest of his life but at least he is alive which is more than you can say for his victims. This piece of excrement should be strangled the way his victims were.
