Makes sense, given that tomatoes and tobacco are both in the same botanical family i.e. Solanaceae (nightshade).

Reminds me of my grafting experiments with Marijuana and kudzu but perhaps that's better in the past.

Next thing you know, they'll graft tomato plants to marijuana plants and tomatoes will be illegal! Italians and theatre critics everywhere will be outraged!

This is nothing new. Many years ago they discovered that they could grow nicotine-bearing tomatoes by grafting tomato plants onto tobacco plant roots.

They also have produced nicotene-free tobacco by grafting tobacco plants onto tomato plant roots.
