I'll never forget the Collyer brothers. They were a part of my childhood on Long Island
I don't think a week went by without my mother saying at least once, "It looks like the Collyer brothers live in this room!" Then she would tell me the macabre story of how Langley's garbage crushed him while Homer starved to death, because nobody could find him behind his garbage.

Very interesting post. I've known some who suffered from this disease. I'll be passing this one on, it should be a warning to us all.

I know someone who has the inverse eccentricity. She has a fair amount of money but has only very sparse furnishings. She paid a nice sum to have a very up to date remodelled kitchen, but never uses it because she "doesn't want it messed up". She'll probably die with a 1/2 million bucks, sleeping on the floor and eating cheese sandwiches.
