Absolutely breathtaking majorities by the Democrats during the FDR years.

It's amazing that the last time (except present day) the GOP held a majority in both houses was during IKe's term from '53-'55. And even while Republican's held the Senate for several years during the Reagan years, it's my understanding that since all spending originates in the House, the GOP was rather impotent. Is this true, since it was before my enlightenment period.

yes. FDR was quite a political leader, but I think we have his match now.
