Do you shop at REI??

Do you shop at REI or Barnes and Nobel or Clearcreek?

If so, you might want to reconsider or at least drop them a line and let them know how you feel about their businesses raising money to defeat President Bush.

ping'em if ya got'em

We are just about a year out from re-election time!

Time to step up and take the battle to the forces who want to return us to the days when threats to our nation were repeatedly ignored.

I've just written to REI to tell them if they want to engage in political action they can do it without my money.

Shop at REI? We even use an REI Master Card because we get credit on future REI purchases. Well, so much for that!

This has to be a scam. They also have Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and Dell Computers on their list. I seriously doubt these companies would allow their names to be used like this.

"My dad is a West Point graduate, and one thing he taught me is “Duty, Honor, Country.” The way things are today, if you love your country, you have the duty to do something about getting an intelligent, compassionate person back in the White House.

I have been volunteering for Howard Dean recenlty, but more important than electing Dean is defeating Bush. That’s why I created www.anybodybutbush.info

Recently I realized that there were lots of folks speaking out against Bush, but not too many of us gathering the financial resources required to defeat him. That’s when I deciced to create this web site."

This is in their pages text....

"The secret is for all of us to all to contribute by buying things we woud buy anyway. Just link to the on-line merchants through this stie. The on-line merchants may not particularly support our cause. They just see this site as a form of marketting for them.

But they will send us a percentage of whatever you spend at their site. For instance, Amazon donates 5% of whatever you buy through this site, to this site. That means for every $100 you spend there, $5 goes to defeating GWB."

Looks like he's manipulating the standard site hosting agreements with retailers.....The retailers may or may not know....

Although I'm sure enough of us Freepers can remove any doubt....

I'm questioning the legitimacy of this site after reading this:

"I’ll pay myself 10% of the first million for running this site. After we raise one million I’ll reduce my share to 5%. Outside of that all the money we bring in will go out to defeat George Bush in 2004."

It sound like it should be named putyourmoneyinmypocket.org

Looks like a scam to me:

"The merchants on this site will donate between .8% and 30% of whatever you spend here. And almost all of that money will go to defeating “Whistle-ass.” I’ll pay myself 10% of the first million for running this site. After we raise one million I’ll reduce my share to 5%. Outside of that all the money we bring in will go out to defeat George Bush in 2004."

Let me know when the first dollar gets spent to defeat Bush.
Meanwhile, let REI and the others know how you feel.

I saw this site posted at DUmmies last night.

I really like Coldwater Creek too. Guess it's time to fire off some e-mails.

Maybe...maybe not. If they don't know what's going on, we need to drop them a line and let them know!

It would be funny if this is just a free market loving, capitalist republican making money off of liberal suckers.

Reading into the site, it appears that REI only donates a percentage of the sales LINKED THROUGH THAT SITE to the site, not a percentage of all of their sales, or all of their internet sales.

In other words, you're not contributing if you visit REI's site directly and shop there, only if you get there through this site. Seems reasonable.

I was in B & N yesterday. All the prominent "lies" books about the right wing manipulating the media were all on prominent display (Hitlery, Conanson, Franken, etc.). When I asked for Treason and Persecution, I was told "We don't carry them". The girl who told me this sneered at me and gave me a look like it was an effort to talk to me. Needless to say, B & N

This site is going to raise 10,000,000 dollars by October 2004, and all of it will go to make sure we don’t have four more years of George Bush mucking up everything.

George Bush raises his millions by promising fat cats he’ll cut their taxes if they just donate to his campaign. We are going to raise millions by encouraging you to shop on-line, through the stores on this site. Here’s how it works.

The merchants on this site will donate between .8% and 30% of whatever you spend here. And almost all of that money will go to defeating “Whistle-ass.” I’ll pay myself 10% of the first million for running this site. After we raise one million I’ll reduce my share to 5%. Outside of that all the money we bring in will go out to defeat George Bush in 2004.

All it takes is you joining our announcment list , telling a few friends about us, and remembering to do your shopping here.

Start off with the shops on this page or check out our Amazon page.

this is just a use of the affiliate sales that all of these companies have. If you see links to a book on a site and it takes you to Amazon, and you buy the book, then they get a commission on the sale of that book, and anything else you buy while they are shopping that time. These companies are not supporting Dems.

This guy is just trying to get rich by using his leftist message to get people to buy things through him, promising to give some of the profits once he gets above $1 million to defeat George Bush.

I don't know whether he is allowed to use their logos, etc...

NEVER Shop there. NEVER.

I live out here with these people and their hugest store is right across the street from my church. Never spend a penny there.

These stores are not contributing; this guy has just set up links that give him a percentage of anything bought at the stores when people use his links to get there. Lots of sites do this to make a few dollars. Then he sez he is going to take 10% of that kickback for his costs and HE will donate the rest to anti-Bush. The stores have no idea what he is doing with the money and probably don't care.

These sites will do the same no matter your belief. It's their program to generate revenue. ShoptilTedKennedyExplodes.com could get the same companies.

Go to any blogger, left or right, and they do pretty much the same. It's a program to direct traffic to retailers. Basically anybody can sign up for it. The computer database that signed this guy up, didn't realize the political ramifications here. This is a joke. Plus, I bet this guy is a scam artist, and not a very good one at that. All of the money is going to go into his pocket, and the naive liberals will not even know about it.
