Woman fined for pudding smuggling October 19, 2003
A WOMAN who tried to smuggle 2kg of black and white pudding past the sharp noses of quarantine sniffer dogs at Brisbane airport has been fined more than $6,000.
Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS) spokesman Carson Creagh said today the woman from the Brisbane suburb of Redbank Plains had flown into Brisbane International Airport earlier this year from Ireland with the black and white puddings and 13kg of other assorted foods packed in her luggage.
She was also carrying four wooden sticks, none of which she had declared on quarantine and customs documents, Mr Creagh said.
He said the woman had appeared in court last Friday and was fined $6600 after a magistrate noted that attempting to smuggle black and white pudding which contains pork could introduce animal diseases such as foot and mouth that could severely affect Australian livestock.
Mr Creagh said Customs and AQIS would not hesitate to prosecute anyone who broke the law in this way.

What would you expect from a land which produces such delicacies as Spotted Dick, Bubble & Squeak, Toad-in-the-Hole, and Black Blood Pudding?
To: COBOL2Java

Ah. I guess the magistrate in question was displaying every ounce of genius at his disposal when he came to the conclusion that the black and white pudding was for a herd of cows grazing somewhere near Brisbane.
It's a good thing she wasn't trying to smuggle an ounce of common sense.
