I live in Hawaii part of the time and this thing was so contrived. Mink was dying and on life support and the democrats knew it, but suppressed how serious her condition was because they wanted her to stay on the ballot. Well, she stayed alive long enough for that to happen and the democrats pulled a Wellstone (or more like a Carnahan), saying the citizens should vote in Patsy's hubby John Mink to "honor" her memory. That's where this whole special election thing came in, and for what, a 5 week term?! Anyhow, there was no chance that a republican would ever win that seat cause it's the 2nd district after all, but I do give the people there credit for not toeing the democrat line and falling for the sympathy ruse and voting for John Mink--hell, the only reason he ran is because the democrats put him up to it. Even though Ed Case (cousin of AOL Steve) is a democrat, I was happy he won cause from what I know, he's an independent democrat whom the unions and democratic establishment here didn't want because he won't take orders from them.

Ed was running for governor here, and the democrats thwarted him in the primary to back their puppet Hirono. They ended up shooting themselves in the foot cause if not for that, Case in all likelihood would be governor today instead of Lingle, the first republican guv in 4 decades, the long dry spell is over.
