Except that total deaths in the US this year are down not just from 2019, they are down from 2015, 2017 and 2018 as well. If coronavirus is killing all these people this year, how come overall deaths are down?

I’d say total deaths are down because of 1.). There has to be a lot less drunk driving going on, saving the weekend carnage on the highways. 2.). A lot less Hospital Caused Infections. (The CDC estimates we loose 90k or more to this.). 3. Less workplace accidents.
