The Western Michigan University School of Music is facing accusations of cultural appropriation after its mostly-white choir sang African-American spirituals during a Black History Month concert.
The show was part of the Western Michigan University School of Music’s Live and Interactive concert series. It took place on Wednesday last week, at the Dalton Center Recital Hall. The performance called “Spirituals: From Ship to Shore” featured John Wesley Wright, an associate professor at Salisbury University, who is black.
Well.
The next time I see a black guy enjoying Bach or Mozart, I’m going to have a righteous fit!
Well, I guess this means Swannee Ribber is out.
Maybe I have a comprehension problem, or logic and I are old foes, but there’s something that I don’t understand:
If “diversity” enriches us as a society, how can it be a bad thing to adopt some of the culture from other ethnic and racial groups. Seems like quite the contradiction to me...kind of like if white privilege is really a thing, why did Elizabeth Warren pretend to be an Indian for several decades?
“Because white culture is worthless and has no value so it can’t be appropriated. It can only be ridiculed.”
Eating ANY type of Italian or Chinese food is cultural appropriation.
Anybody who can only be recognized by their teeth at night and are seen eating these foods should be arrested.
And no, I don’t want to appropriate food from the collard green, fried chicken eating, corn bread sucking mothers.
I’m good with my Italian food, thanks.

Every race must be restricted to their own culturals? sounds like segregation.
This insanity has to stop.
To all people in positions of authority, when you are asked to “cancel” someone because of cultural appropriation:
Just. Say. No.
The worst thing is that we live in a time where someone as stupid as this gets mentioned on a “news” site.
No more watermelons, tapdancing or banjo music for white folks.
How idiotic.

The use of the term “cultural appropriation” identifies the user as so far to the left of the Bell Curve they’ll need a ship capable of warp speed if they wish to return to CIVILIZATiON before they die.
To the complainer, STFU and start your own culture.
Without ANYTHING coming from the Judeo-Christian culture.

How about driving a car, a bicycle, flying in airplane, using a fork, a bra, a zipper, playing a piano, a guitar, a radio, TV, watching a movie, using a phone, a computer, electricity, running water, and on and on.
Folks, Western Michigan University is an overwhelming “White” college. Finding a majority black choir would be near impossible.
“ I like it! That will obviate all these stupid (fill in the blank) History months!”
Ok, you’re gonna wanna sit down for this, but I got a crazy idea. Let’s pretend that all men are created equal. Oh, I know, let’s just say that we’ll not judge by the color of one’s skin and whatnot, but by the content of one’s character. Then we can just stop making a big deal about all this stuff. What do you think? Too much?
A German invented the 4-cycle internal combustion engine and another German invented the automobile. A Russian invented petroleum cracking to produce gasoline and a Scotsman invented the pneumatic tire.
So if you drive a gasoline automobile and aren’t German on your father’s side and Russian on your mothers with a Scottish Auntie, you’re guilty of cultural appropriation.
