I suspect there’s another split - those who want to impeach now for the theater and those who want to wait until closer to the election to try to turn that. Both parties know the grounds are nonexistent, but the idea isn’t to remove from office because they know they don’t have the votes for that, it’s to damage Trump as much as possible. The real problem comes if they don’t even have the votes to impeach at all, which appears to be the case at the moment.

Since it would look to a large segment of the voting population as a purely political act with zero possibility of affecting Trump’s term in office no matter when it is conducted, what is the point in waiting?
