Some of us predicted exactly this.
Rand Paul has made himself a very effective voice in the U.S. Senate for this reason: He talks the talk, but ultimately is willing to vote for the best deal he can get in any given situation. There was no way in hell he was ever going to vote against Kavanaugh.

I’m confident that the Republicans will have at most 1-2 defections - and I’d be surprised if it were even 2. Meanwhile the Democrats will have 3-4 defections and Kavanaugh will be confirmed.
