Trump’s demise has been greatly exaggerated

This time they’ve surely got him. Pack your bags, Mr. President. The game is up. Because this week we learned that . . . that . . . well, there’s this tape, see, recorded by Donald Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen in September of 2016, during which the then-presidential candidate discussed setting up a company for the purpose of paying off alleged former paramour Karen McDougal to make her go away.

Did Trump and Cohen actually pay her off? No, but . . . but . . . c’mon, it would have been a campaign-finance violation! If it had happened. Or it was sort of a campaign-finance violation once removed, because the company that owns the National Enquirer paid for the rights to the McDougal story but then never ran anything on it, and maybe Trump knew about this!

Trump-is-doomed stories are one of the media’s favorite fairy tales. Remember when you saw “Peter Pan” when you were 4 and you actually thought that clapping for Tinkerbell would bring her back to life? Pundits think that if they cheer loudly enough for Trump to get eighty-sixed, it’ll happen. His (first?) term in office is more than a third over, and the Very Serious Commentators have been ushering him out the door the entire time. Or at least they’ve been trying to. It turns out that Trump doesn’t pay a lot of attention to the usher-pundits.

“Michael Cohen and the End Stage of the Trump Presidency,” ran a headline in The New Yorker. That was back on April 14. Writer Adam Davidson gravely averred, “This is the week we know, with increasing certainty, that we are entering the last phase of the Trump Presidency. This doesn’t feel like a prophecy; it feels like a simple statement of the apparent truth.”(continued)

The tapes should be used as evidence against McDougal for extortion.

LOL! They’re never going to give up. That said, CNN actually had an article saying that his economic policies are working and praising him, and I think the “gasp! Trump did what?” TV news is beginning to bore even the Democrat viewers except for a dwindling handful of Hillary faithful.

President Trump’s demise was not in any way exaggerated. We now have 1160 consecutive days of “Peak Trump”, each of them accurately and factually reported in the unbiased manner our media are famous for.

We are going to have to redesignate President Trump as “The Teflon Don, Version 2.0”.

Much like the original, John Gotti, the Mafia boss of the Gambino crime family in New York City. Repeated attempts to bring him to justice in the 1980’s, in high-profile criminal trials, were deflected , and John Gotti actually was something of a rock star, with a large following among the general public.

But unlike Donald J. Trump, John Gotti really was the perpetrator of a number of very serious felonies, including murder, drug dealing, jury tampering, juror misconduct, and witness intimidation.

Gotti was finally convicted in 1991, when one of his subordinates turned state’s witness, and the FBI had a firm case. In 1992, Gotti was convicted of five murders, conspiracy to commit murder, racketeering, obstruction of justice, tax evasion, illegal gambling, extortion, and loansharking. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole and was transferred to United States Penitentiary, Marion, in southern Illinois, and died in 2002, at a prison medical facility.

This time we’ve got him. One of his tweets had a typo. Impeach now!
