John McCain on Republican confidence in Trump for 2020: 'They see weakness in this president'
The Washington Examiner ^ | August 5, 2017 | Mandy Mayfield

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., expressed his party's uncertainty about President Trump running for office again in 2020, according to a report Saturday.

"They see weakness in this president," McCain told the New York Times. "Look, it's not a nice business we're in."

The report takes into consideration interviews from over 75 Republicans from diverse levels of the party. It notes donors and strategists as being more hesitant to stand by a Trump 2020 run, and points out a break from tradition as possible candidates that in prior years may have respectfully laid low this earlier on in the presidency, have been showing face at notable donor-filled Republican events.

McCain has been an outspoken critic of President Trump and went against the president's wishes last week when he helped defeat the Republican leadership's latest effort to dismantle Obamacare by voting "no" on the "skinny repeal" of the Affordable Care Act.

Trump and McCain have repeatedly butt heads since the beginning of Trump's 2016 presidential campaign when Trump quipped that he preferred people "who weren't captured," referencing McCain's time spent as a prisoner of war.

Did he forget he lost to a man with an Arabic name only 7 years after 9/11? And that he'll be dead long before 2020 rolls around? I doubt that he'll have a vote in Hell.

“Look, it’s not a nice business we’re in.”

LOL! So what’s the problem then, Juan?

"They see weakness in this president..."

I think they misread Trump and they misread us. Did he miss the rally in West Virginia? How about the one in Ohio the other day? Trump could have 20 million people in downtown DC on about 3 days notice.

McCain is a back bencher when it comes to intellect and logical thinking and the best interests of America.

More delusional projection from a delusioned leftist who only sees beltway politics and doesn’t see America and Americans.

McCain is a modern day Benedict Arnold and he should be railroaded out of politics.

..... “Look, it’s not a nice business we’re in....

And we can depend on him a little longer to keep it that way.

I hope McCain lives long enough to see the coup fall apart, Trump re-elected and his hopes of eternal warfare dashed.

And he recommended McMasters. Can’t believe anyone can trust his advice.

I know this will sound mean, but I don’t care. the faster the cancer takes McCain the better. Lots of good people die of cancer and i have sympathy for them, if it takes one bad old man trying to hurt our country than I am just fine with that..

McCain has been a cancer on the republican party for years.

Trump could have 20 million ARMED people in downtown DC on about 3 days notice.

Fixed it.

Bwah hah hah, Senator Green With Envy, you actually think your opinion still matters!

Guess what: everyone knows you’re a bitter and envious dying man, and you were a PATHETIC presidential candidate.

You have no idea how many people are totally sick of you and are rooting for the tumor.

LOL, some weakness? Yes. Insanity? NO! A little weakness is acceptable when you aren’t a trained politician. He is gradually learning, hopefully by 2020 he’ll have it down pat. So McCain, go back to your padded room and play with your crayons.

Correct, we dont need them. We have already proven it once and will roar again in next year’s elections. By 2020 PDT will be stronger than ever and anyone not on the Trump Train will get steamrolled once and for all

The “political class” don’t get it. Ted Cruz gets it after he got his a$$ booed off the stage at the RNC last year.

The Republican Party will, in spite of all of its flaws, improve post-McCain. The same way a boat moves faster when the anchor is taken up.
