Poll: Katko Holds Sizable Lead Over Democratic Challenger

New York Rep. John Katko holds a significant lead over his Democratic opponent and is actually outperforming Hillary Clinton in his upstate House race, according to a new poll.

The Time Warner Cable News/Siena College poll found Katko with a 19-point lead over Democrat Colleen Deacon, 53 percent to 34 percent. Furthermore, the freshman congressman draws support from 28 percent of Democrats in the district, while only 13 percent of the district's Republicans back Deacon.

In the presidential race, Clinton leads Republican Donald Trump by 12 points among district voters, 45 percent to 33 percent, the poll shows. But that's still 4 points less than President Barack Obama's margin of victory in 2012. Obama also won the district under its current boundaries by 14 points in 2008.

Very good news, Katko unseated an incumbent by a landslide in 2014, appears to be a rising star.

Trump is still running even in North Carolina. Colorado polls are all over the place. Trump’s having problems in the high-income Philadelphia suburbs.

I believe Trump is performing better in those states than has been reported by the Hillary-loving media.

Katko’s voting record is awful. He earned a 33% Conservative rating from the ACU in his first year. That’s not very far afield from my Democrat Congressman.

He is my Congressman. His claim to fame is he does not support his party.
He is more likely to go with Pelosi than his party. He is as RINO as you can get. Check his conservative rating.

That is a very poor record, I did not know.

Many people said he was an underdog. But, I do not see how someone who beat an incumbent by 20 points(who was not even indicted)could be an underdog This does not surprise me. Hopefully as he gets his seat nailed down in future contests he will vote more with his party.

Nor do they deserve to be high income. I am sorry I supported every tax cut for wealthy people as well as business after we did that they just stabbed us in the back with cheap labor and of course are “working with the Democrats to get things done.”

Yes, the Main Line snobs. They love to vote for policies that won't impact them.

He is my congressman too. I am not impressed at all with his performance either. I liked Ann Marie Burkle much better. Katko sides way to often with the dems which is probably why he is ahead. Republicans voted for him because of the party label and Mafei was a idiot. Democrats like him because of his record. He is just the type of guy that needs to be voted out in a primary. However, the NY-GOP is more liberal than most democrats in other states.

It’s far afield of the zero this witch Deacon would get. Unlike Kakto (I thought it was Katko all this time) she’s pro minimum wage hike, pro Pelosi (don’t tell me Ryan is evil so that doesn’t matter), pro-BLM democrats as committee chairs and 100% pro-abortion (he seems to be a bit mixed but more pro-life).

I’d like to see the democrats annihilated. This poll pleases me.

You take what you can get. If it’s the Democrats year you tell him good riddance. If he rides on a Republican wave or someone’s coattails you hope that he comes through in a pinch when called upon.
