Trump's strategy: Where he says he can win
CNN Politics ^ | May 27, 2016 | Gregory Wallace

Donald Trump is not a conventional politician.

And his path to the White House may not be very conventional either.

He's hinting at a path to 270 electoral votes that would redraw the electoral map, taking him to victory through some states that haven't gone Republican since George H.W. Bush nearly swept the map in his 1988 bid.

Presidential nominees typically focus on a handful of so-called battleground states, those that political observers and campaign strategists believe can tip either way in November. They largely take for granted that the rest of the map is predictable -- Texas for Republicans and California for Democrats, for example.

But Trump has claimed he can shake up that math by winning least eight states that CNN has categorized as either likely or solidly Democratic...

In this unpredictable year, with Trump using his instincts, and skills, I think he can pull it off. All of the other candidates, Bush, Cruz, Kasich, Rubio, etc., would have played by the same rule book as 2008 and 2012. They would have not dared say anything about all the Clinton scandals, they would have been ready to apologize, grovel and beg forgiveness at the drop of a hat, and they would have spent all the time, effort, and money in the same predictable states, and never even attempted anything bold, new or controversial. They would have all lost to the Clinton machine, and returned home to write their book about what an honor it was to get the nomination, and to run, and they’d have the scrapbooks to prove it.

Lots of wishful thinking, including me! But that's the great thing about Trump, whether its politics or business, he makes it seem as though anything is possible.

Trump already made fools out of the experts who repeatedly proclaimed he would never get the nomination, he would face a contested convention and who are now saying he will lose in November.

The past year has turned out to be anything but predictable. Experts who say Trump can’t beat Hillary are just echoing the CW everyone knows. Which could be wrong again.
