(CNN)Donald Trump's campaign is scrambling to ramp up its planning for the general election, including scraping together a list of potential vice presidential candidates, after Trump abruptly became the presumptive Republican nominee Tuesday night.

The Trump campaign, blindsided by rival Ted Cruz's sudden exit from the race, is now beginning internal deliberations about potential vice presidential candidates, two Trump campaign sources tell CNN.

Newt has been a huge Trump supporter. And for those of you who are going to try to say 3 marriages each? Yes, let's just bring up the topic on national live television. Let the liberal media bring it up.

Why is this a gift if Trump/Newt critics want to hilight their 3 marriages when they have both been married to their current wives for several years? Why? Probably because even Chelsea Clinton herself KNOWS that the Clintons haven't been in a real marriage for decades. Speculations that Hillary is Gay and Clinton still has mistresses on the side. Clinton's surrogates cannot go there, meaning they cannot criticize Trump or Newt. (It wouldn't matter to the voters if they did, it won't stop people from voters for voting for Trump) However, the liberal media can't use that as a criticism because it will only backfire against Hillary Clinton. It's a non-issue, REPEAT, non-issue for any voter regarding whatever happened decades ago. However, Clintons are still legally married and lead separate lives in Real Time. They have a farce of a marriage.

Come on Clinton Surrogates, Liberal Media and paid online posters, try to say Trump and Newt wouldn't be the best ticket EVER. Hillary Clinton will be DESTROYED when everyone starts talking about her FAKE marriage. Voters cannot stand liars who are willing to fake a marriage for DECADES in order to attain power.

Go Newt for VP! All the way to the Whitehouse and show us the playbook for the first 100 days of a Trump Presidency.

Cruz dirtied himself. Maybe he could be the White House dish washer, or trim hedges.

His pick of Joe Scarborough is equally stupid.

I would be very interested in Trumps SCOTUS pick. Cruz would be excellent. And unless Gowdy is just show boating at his hearings I would like to see that too.

VP is not much of a deciding factor for many. Although the only reason there was ANY enthusiasm for McCain was his pick of Palin for VP.

Palin’s family is the hot mess express. I don’t see him choosing her.

Yep, that's the one.

..... but her most memorable jabs landed squarely on the GOP's own Donald Trump. That's something that didn't escape -- or please -- some conservatives.

Haley took clear aim at the GOP front-runner, discussing her family's immigrant experience while warning against rhetoric that would threaten "the dream that is America" for others. ........

True. And Palin has domestic issues which would be played non stop by the media whores.

Portman the ring would be good to ‘kick’ upstairs. Kasich could run as a CONSERVATIVE or Jordan.

I think she would do well to concentrate on those domestic issues. Sounds like there is a lot of help needed.

I don’t know.

Joe Scarborough has been more or less a consistent Trump supporter from the get go.

I know a lot of people here associate him with MSNBC and see him as a liberal, but I think he’s very strong, and he has been with Trump more or less, from the start.

Not really. Reagan chose Bush and they were mortal enemies during the primaries. SO, NO to both of these - Sessions - too old - Palin - used goods.

Either Sessions or Allen West....

Although Sessions would serve Trump better in the Senate....
