Cruz Bets on Tradition to Upend Trump in Iowa
The Texas Tribune ^ | January 22, 2016 | Patrick Svitek

DES MOINES -- Among the hundreds of Ted Cruz volunteers that have cycled through a dorm-like outpost here, a select group proudly calls itself the "2 Percenters." They are fans who remember when Cruz was a decisive underdog against then-Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, polling in single digits before pulling off an upset win in the 2012 U.S. Senate election in Texas.

Now they are putting their lives on hold to help his presidential bid in Iowa, where Cruz has slowly risen to the top of the Republican field and emerged as the chief rival of billionaire Donald Trump. For Timothy Hoy, a Republican activist from Dallas, the Feb. 1 caucuses carry added significance: They fall almost five years after Cruz first called asking for his support in the Senate race.

"It's like a dream come true," Hoy said Thursday as he imagined Cruz's rise from long-shot candidate to commander in chief. "What a five years it's been."

For Cruz, that dream is far from complete, but the caucuses represent a major first step -- and one that acutely involves people like Hoy. Facing a nasty fight to the finish with Trump, Cruz's campaign is betting big that the best way to beat a nontraditional opponent here is with tradition, going places Trump won't while building a superior get-out-the-vote operation....

He should talk to Rick Santorum about his campaign strategy.

Abdul Aziz born in Saudi Arabia to Saudi father and American mother is a Natural Born Citizen? Should he be eligible to run for president of these great United States?

Mind you there are tens of thousands of Muslims in the middle-east who have one parent an American citizen. The thought is very scary to me.

You know the thought that is very scary to me?

It's that you think that a Saudi born, half-arab dude named Abdul Aziz could get elected.

Who cares if he could run?

Anyway, we have already had a part arab, maybe foreign born, slip-slider sleaze ball elected President. The best way to protect against that is to prevent Democrats from multiple voting.

If Obama can get elected with his known socialist views, and his BIOGRAPHY clearly stating he was born in Kenya, and with his college records sealed, then an ultra rich Saudi with much more money than Donald Trump can also get elected.

And he does not have to be a Saudi. He could be a rich Russian (Russia has many Billionaires). Or a rich Indian (India has many Billionaires). Or a rich Mexican (has the richest man in the world...Carlos slim).

Sorry, I prefer a candidate with both parents US citizens and born in the USA and both parents lived in the USA for many decades.

“Milt and Juan won Iowa? Who knew?”

As in a traditional Republican race. Trump is not your typical politician.

Why sorry? Who wouldn't prefer a tried and true American son or daughter of the soil with two citizen parents? I know I would.

But then, this description covers John Kerry, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Hillary Clinton. I don't prefer any of them.

So, here's my advice: proudly vote your preference.

Yet another one of Mr Trump's paid astroturfers opens his mouth and shows how really stupid he is.
