God help America: Imagine you could only vote for Farage or Corbyn... No wonder the US is worried
The London Daily Mail ^ | January 16, 2016 | By Sir Christopher Meyer, Former Ambassador To The U.s.

Posted on 01/16/2016 5:00:50 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Like a lot of my American friends, I watched in fascinated horror last week's debate between the seven candidates for the Republican Party nomination to the US presidency.

It was politics as blood sport: venomous and angry, a competition in verbal excess.

I could not get out of my mind that bar room scene in the first Star Wars film, when Harrison Ford is confronted by a row of interplanetary grotesques.

It is genuinely alarming that one of the two Republican frontrunners - Donald Trump, the bouffant-haired billionaire demagogue, and Ted Cruz, the hard-right Cuban-American senator from Texas - could be the next president of the United States, still by far the world's greatest military and economic power.

Democrat Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, is under vigorous challenge from the veteran Left-winger, Bernie Sanders, a kind of American Jeremy Corbyn.

This is at a moment in history when the world has rarely been in greater need of a steady hand in the Oval Office.

It is not easy to see how it can be provided by either Trump or Cruz, with their crude, xenophobic rantings, or by Sanders, whose experience of international relations has rarely strayed beyond the small New England state of Vermont.....

If those were my choices, Farage would get my vote in a heart beat.

The day we listen to degenerate Brits who allowed Muslims to molest and rape English girls for decades because of political correctness is the day we become as spineless and amoral as they are. From this preserve us, Heavenly Father.

Thank you.

They are not the example that I want to follow.

This rant makes me very glad that we separted from England centuries ago.

Too bad, they had a lot going for them before they killed off their finest in WWI.

Sad, really...

Both the UK and the US are in trouble. However, the UK is deeper in the pile of excrement than we are. Those supposedly laughable contenders will get us out of the pile. Not sure at all about the UK.

Hey Limey, why don't you import a few million more Pakis, mohamedans, and other assorted commie-leaning third worlders, if you luv 'em so much, and as a corollary, hate your native citizens so much? I'll take Enoch Powell any day, over leftist, Godless idiots such as yourself.

Most of us in Britain still take refuge in the hope that in the privacy of the election booth American voters will come to their senses and choose a ‘safe’ candidate like Bush or Clinton.

In other words, we should choose someone from the same old rotten oligarchy that has ruN the country into the ground.

Speaking of "xenophobia" in elected leaders:

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.

A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement, the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.

-Winston Churchill, The River War, 1899

Just imagine the pants wetting across the pond if Cruz or Trump had said something that powerful.

I understand FReepers’ distaste for this article, but the author is onto something. The two sides is US politics are pulling farther and farther apart. We are in a period now where each side, upon assuming power, will undo the work of the other side. The country will pull apart eventually, almost certainly with violence.

The limey wanker Christopher Meyer can go pound sand.

Butt the hell out of our election.

A divorce between America and the U.K. is long overdue.

Hard to find a better example of the combination of clueless incompetence and arrogance driving voter anger on both sides of the Atlantic than this horse’s posterior.
