Letter: Hurrah for Cruz
The Miami Herald ^ | December 25, 2015 | Manny Roman, vice chairman, Republican Party of Miami-Dade Miami

Posted on 12/25/2015 6:28:56 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Senator Ted Cruz has demonstrated time and time again that he is not afraid to take on the Washington establishment — a powerful bipartisan group of insiders and special interests that benefits and grows regardless of the way the public votes, even when the margin of victory is large or when conservatives control both chambers of Congress.

With the Republican Party’s primary now front and center and getting daily headlines and front-page articles in the media, it is past time that Miami learns more about Ted Cruz — the other senator of Cuban descent running for president.

I had every reason to support Senator Rubio instead — he is a well-liked local Republican and my colleague on the faculty at Florida International University (he teaches politics, while I teach business). However, even in an environment where there is overwhelming indirect pressure to get behind one of the local candidates, Ted Cruz’s story and platform break through all the noise.

Cruz is an incredibly talented, principled and unwavering voice for constitutional and limited government. That’s why I’m endorsing him....

Ted would make a great president. I know he has fallen out of favor somewhat here, but he belongs in the top two.

He has my vote in the primary. But there is a big gap separating him and Trump. a very big one.

Some endorsements aren’t worth having.

Lots of hard left manipulation going on so I wouldn’t put much stock in national poll numbers. State polls are a lot better the closer we get to actual voting.

As far as Trump winning the general election, its simply not going to happen. After seeing FReepers openly cheering the idea of him being a dictator there is simply no chance in hell that I will ever vote for him.

First Manny works for Obama, then he works for Rand Paul, and now Cruz? Looks like Manny is for sale to the highest bidder, which in this case appears to be local multi-billionaire Norman Braman. With friends like Manny, who needs enemies?

He certainly is a shrewd politician, Trump.

I guess we will see what happens.

Hmmm. So you base who you vote for on stuff Freepers say that you don’t like? Certainly an interesting way to choose a candidate.

Hahahaha!

OK, laugh.

Last month, Roman successfully pushed a resolution at the party condemning the now-failed deal to steer tax money to renovations at the Miami Dolphins stadium.

Anyone who is against public money for rich sports players and owners is OK by me! My bad.

This is true - "would make a great president".
This is true - "I know he has fallen out of favor somewhat here..."

For years Freepers have complained/griped/been sad, mad, suffered emotional stress, seen our country failing, because we did not have a solid conservative candidate with excellent qualifications for president. Now, we have one and they do not want him. Some people enjoy their misery, it serves a purpose for them, so they continue to complain and will never be satisfied. I hope the general electorate realizes Cruz is the man for these times and they put him in office to save this country.

The supporters a candidate surrounds himself with do speak something about him. Far too many Trump supporters seem ok with the idea of Trump as some sort of strong man authoritarian leader. Trump never distances himself from this and never seems to talk much about the Constitution, checks and balances, or the bill of rights.

Ted Cruz would actually understand the requirements and duties of the Presidential Oath of Office. I have may doubts about whether Trump would even care just like most others in D.C.

He has not fallen out of favor with me. The man is knowledgeable about America. And he is a patriot. No one else is close.
