Ted Cruz looks to solidify conservative base during Alabama visit
The Birmingham News ^ | December 18, 2015 | John Sharp

Sen. Ted Cruz will swing through Alabama this weekend as he attempts to solidify support among Southern evangelical voters, a key demographic in the race for the GOP presidential nomination.

Polls show that Cruz is a popular candidate among voters identifying themselves as "very" conservative, including tea party activists who seem to have embraced his anti-government rhetoric. And if Cruz can solidify that voting base, insiders say he has a good chance – like Rick Santorum in 2012 and Mike Huckabee in 2008 – to win the Alabama GOP primary.

"I do think the 'SEC Primary' is Cruz's best chance for winning the GOP presidential nomination," said William Stewart, professor emeritus of political sciences at the University of Alabama. "If he can't win in these red states, how could he expect to do well in those which are 'purple' to say nothing of those which are 'blue.'"(continued)

Neither Huckabee nor Santorum had $100 million dollars to do the necessary follow-through on their early wins. Ted Cruz does, however.

The Cruz missile has launched, and it has course-correctional capabilities.

“insiders say he has a good chance like Rick Santorum in 2012 and Mike Huckabee in 2008 to win the Alabama GOP primary.”

Is this like Rip Van Winkle, you wake up 20 years later and don’t know what’s going on?

We’ve been waiting 30+ years for a real conservative we can vote for.

And now, we’ve got a populist with a near majority at FRee Republic.

Wow. We could blow the only chance in my adult lifetime if some folks’ hopes come true.

It’s like if George Wallace or Ross Perot were running in 1980.

If Ted Cruz had showed more courage In standing up to the GOPe like Donald Trump has, perhaps he would be doing better.

In what ways has Ted Cruz caved to the GOPe?

Another low-information Trump supporter opens his mouth and states something he knows nothing about and the facts don't support.

The problem with irony is that it is so ironic....

Ok, then why is Ted Cruz losing to Trump?

He’s repeatedly name-dropped U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions of Mobile, a popular Republican among conservatives whose anti-immigration stance has been embraced by GOP candidates this year...

I could have bet money on that one. He will continue to make it sound like he has Session’s support since Session’s backed him against Rubio.

NO ONE can make that claim better than Cruz. No one can claim to have stood in the actual breach more than he, and damn few with him.

Words are cheap as hell when compared to actions. And you don't know what you're talking about.

Case in point, for the past couple of months, Ted Cruz has been battling the GOPe in the Senate, in the press and on the Senate floor criticizing the budget deals.

So then yesterday, the budget passes, Trumps makes a comment and some Trump supporters claim that Trump is leading on the issue.

Low information indeed.

Case in point [...]

In every case, in any case, you can bet that Cruz has been right in the thick of it - Right up to his neck. King, Sessions, and Cruz, defending WHAT? Defending Conservatism, and the American Way. *NO ONE* can claim that defense more than they, and Cruz probably chief among them (not to pick nits).

And many would trade that for somebody with a pretty mouth. Go figger.

sTrumpets... Selling what looks like the real thing, but in truth, isn't even close.
