Ted Cruz has been branded a âwacko birdâ by a Senate colleague and a âjackassâ by the former speaker of the House. A GOP consultant labeled him a show horse, and a strategist for a rival presidential campaign called him the Mitt Romney of 2016 â the Republican no other Republican can stand.
âI just donât like the guy,â former president George W. Bush, Cruzâs old boss, told supporters at a fundraiser for his brother Jeb Bush last month.
The list of GOP politicians and operatives willing to take open shots at Cruz has grown long: Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, former House speaker John A. Boehner (Ohio), Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.), fellow Texas Sen. John Cornyn, Sen. John Thune (S.D.), former senator Tom Coburn (Okla.) â and on and on.
Cruz does not appear to be bothered. The senator and presidential candidate seems to relish the fact that so many fellow Republicans love to hate him. On the trail, the Texas Republican fondly recounts his skirmishes. His campaign blasts out fundraising e-mails quoting the critical words. When Boehner called Cruz a jackass, his campaignâs solicitation quoted him saying, âI will wear it as a badge of honor because I refuse to join their club.â A super PAC supporting Cruz released a radio spot Tuesday boasting that Boehner referred to Cruz as a âa pain in the you know what.â
In other words, Cruzâs status as persona non grata has become part of his political persona: He uses the enmity of others to paint himself as an outsider, someone whose role taking on Washington prompted an ugly backlash from the establishment that he counts as a point of pride....

Nothing says you’re doing it right like having the right enemies.
.
A lot of folks, especially the German Army, didn’t particularly like Gen. George Patton, Jr.
That’s quite understandable.
.
Yeah, how come he doesn't just go off himself, and set what we hope becomes a trend among other American conservatives.
He has all the right enemies.
Build the Meme, feed the Meme, PIMP THE MEME....
Then ask why aren’t YOU onboard with not liking him, Mr. Sheeple??
Cruz is doing the things we ask him to do when we elected him senator. The Washington cartel is pissed that he is holding to his values and can’t be bought off like so many of them. As president, he would do the same.
Cruz tells the hard honest truth with what’s wrong with this country. Sadly, the vast majority of the country doesn’t want to hear the truth.
You know you’re over the target when you start taking flak

Hey, buddy, that perpetual loser Romney was your guy, not our guy. All these jerks who are attacking Cruz were busy pushing Romney last time around.
Considering Congress’s approval ratings, having them hate you is a good thing.
In addition to leftists and the GOPe that dislkike Cruz, you can also add the Cruz birther nutcases who these days are mostly disguised as Trump supporters. You can also add the idiots that don’t have a clue about how free markets work and try to equate TPA with ANY trade deal whether good or bad, because their trade protectionists at heart, also ironically Trump supporters for the most part. And let’s not forget the Anti-Semites here that criticized Cruz for “taking advantage of the goodwill of Arab Christians” by declaring the need for them (Arab Christians) to be steadfast in the support of Israel, whom if you review their posts here on FR are also amazingly almost 100% behind Trump.
People say there are “rational” Trump supporters. To me, that term means the same as “moderate” Muslim.
In a nutshell, people taht dislike Cruz dislike him because they dislike conservative principles in general.
In today’s political climate its a badge of honor.
Shrillary is just plain unlikeable and no one seems to think that’s a problem.
I like Cruz. I don’t like Trump but would have no problem voting for him.
The libs - in this case WAPO - think like jr hi girls, don’t they?
Because it’s not about him, it’s about advancing our ideas.
Well, the media and the elites figure they have destroyed Carson so they are turning back to Cruz.
