Among Republicans who self-identify as “very conservative,” he’s leading his closest challenger, Walker, by twenty-seven per cent to sixteen per cent—an eleven-point gap. Among “somewhat conservative” G.O.P. supporters, he is leading Bush by twenty-two per cent to fourteen per cent—an eight-per-cent gap. And, among “moderate to liberal” Republicans, he is ahead of Bush by twenty-eight per cent to twenty per cent—also, an eight-per-cent lead.

Trump’s appeal also extends across most major demographic groups, the Monmouth poll found. Among Republican voters aged fifty and up, he is leading Bush by eleven percentage points and Walker by fourteen points. Among G.O.P. voters under fifty, his lead is even bigger: sixteen percentage points over Bush and seventeen points over Walker. As might have been expected, he has a big lead among Republican men: about twenty percentage points. But he’s also picking up considerable support among Republican women: twenty per cent said that they supported him, compared to twelve per cent for Walker and eleven per cent for Bush.

Numbers like these make it difficult to pigeonhole Trump as the right-wing protest candidate, or as the tribune of any particular group. “Republican support for Donald Trump just continues to grow with no clear sense of who his constituency really is,” Patrick Murray, who directs the Monmouth University Polling Institute, said in a statement accompanying the release of the poll results. “This makes it very difficult for his opponents to figure out how to take him on in the upcoming debate.”

I have never seen so many articles and TV shows trying to justify demise of the front runner as now. Either they are scared of Trump candidacy or their political instincts are out of sync with the situation on ground.

After Donald Trump wins the election, they will say he will never stay around long enough to be sworn in. After he is sworn in, they will say he will never move into the White House. After he moves into the White House, .....

Trump does not have much history that makes him attractive to me. That some of it is ‘forced’ upon him, that I understand. New York City is corporate Democrat and to do business there, you cannot ignore it. However he is the very image of a corporate welfare king, he has a history of being on the liberal side of immigration, welfare and environmental issues.

I greatly fear that he will end up as another Ross Perot and chance electing another Clinton or alternate Democrat to a 3rd Obama term.

Trump is only against ILLEGAL immigrants. Any one who is against legal immigrants who can help move the economy and culture higher is just xenophobic.

Where have you seen Trump pushing welfare for the undeserving? personally I am all for helping the real needy.

If we take Trump on his word, he has repeatedly said, that he will not run 3rd party if treated fairly by RNC. If RNC plays underhanded tricks with him, would you blame Trump going 3rd party?
