Unlike most GOP competitors in the 2016 White House race, Ted Cruz is not shying away from Donald Trump after the business mogul's controversial comments. In fact, the Texas senator said he "saluted" the "Apprentice" star for tackling immigration, CNBC reported.
Trump made headlines by saying that Mexico brings drug dealers, criminals and rapists to the United States -- comments that caused widespread backlash in the Latino community. But Cruz, one of two Latino candidates in the party's increasingly crowded field of presidential contenders, told the business channel that journalists were to blame for the upheaval.
"Sometimes it seems there's no sport that the media enjoys more than Republican-on-Republican violence," the senator noted. "Policy disagreements are meant to be the bread and butter of politics. I don't think it's appropriate to impugn the integrity of other candidates, and I don't intend to do so."
The two candidates met on Wednesday for nearly an hour and vowed that they would not let the often bloody primary season get in the way of their friendship, ABC News noted.
"He's running, and I'm running, and we both agreed that we started out as friends and we'll end as friends," Cruz insisted. "You know, Donald and I have gotten together and visited a number of times before he was a presidential candidate and it was good to visit."
Trump was "one of a kind" and their meeting "terrific," the Texan judged. He insisted that he had not asked for the TV personality's presidential endorsement.
CBS News, meanwhile, commented that Trump had "pulled off an amazing feat" by keeping himself in the news during a summer filled with headline-grabbing events, including major Supreme Court decisions and the shooting in Charleston, South Carolina.
"He has also gotten nearly every other Republican in the 2016 GOP race to talk about his candidacy, rather than their own," the network noted.
But Republican strategist John Feehery still believes the phenomenon will be short-lived. "Will there be long term impact for the Republican Party? I don't think so, mostly because our nominee's not going to be Donald Trump," he said.
They just can't help but lie.
Anti-ILLEGAL Mexicans, especially those committing crimes.
Yeah, the media never makes that distinction. Either they are trying tear down Trump -or- they are just stupid. May be both!
You can smell the fear.
Bromance is a good thing
Oh, they know the difference. They are just hoping you won’t.
Just saying.
It is time to bring out Sarah Palin, then let’s have a real race next year.
:D
Well his name is Andre F. PugLIE.
The scent of Establishment Fear should be bottled and sold by Trump, Enterprises.
“Anti-Mexican”
True “NEWSPEAK”! Ted Cruz is part Cuban, which, last I heard is “Hispanic” and the proud son of a LEGAL Immigrant. Ted, I am sure, is proud of his heritage, and does not harbor hatred against other Hispanic People.
If he has no problem understanding Trump’s statement, in which Trump criticized the GOVERNMENT of Mexico (not Mexican People, per se), who were deliberately facilitating the illegal infiltration of the border, (this too has been documented by Mexican Government pamphlets describing how to enter the USA illegally), than WHO are these self righteous Anglos who deliberately misinterpret him?
The flak is thickest over the target!
Why would Cruz be angry about “anti-mexican” comments? He is half Cuban, which last time I checked was not Mexican. Should I be angry about anti-French comments since my ancestors are from Europe? Hell no, i applaud comments against those cheese eating surrender monkeys!!
Because it is not really about Mexicans, it is about open borders and no knowledge of what kind of people are crossing the border.
We should know who is entering, what there qualifications are and why they are entering.
Whether Mexican, Arab, or whatever.
Right. It’s about “folks” who enter this country illegally, and then expect us to roll out the red carpet for them.
What the Dems are so mad about is not that Trump accused the Mexican government of aiding the transfer of their unwanted. It is that an investigation into this would leave to proof that OUR GOVERNMENT told the MEXICAN GOVERNMENT to do so.
I mean, we all know it here, but most of the public doesn’t.
Oh, indeed. That is an excellent analysis of the situation.
I’ve liked Sarah since I first saw her.
But she isn’t the quality of Ted Cruz, he would make a much better VP than she would, and in time a much better President.
Tactically, this is very interesting, because in effect, Cruz and Trump are opening two different fronts on Jeb Bush.
Bush has a severe problem that his support is “a mile deep, but only an inch wide”, in that his core *nationwide* support is a meager 13,000 wealthy men. That means that he can hire top spin doctors and power brokers, who might work wonders with the Republican elites, but have little influence with the rank and file.
He has no way of defending himself against populist attacks from two directions.
Hitler had Russia and the US against him. He lost.
Heard that today at work and slapped it down.
