JUDY WOODRUFF: So, a related issue, and that is the flag, the Confederate Flag.
It came down today in South Carolina. There was a big celebration. But, meanwhile, yesterday, David, at the Capitol, there was this sudden partisan flare-up over the flag. Why does this issue keep coming up right now?
DAVID BROOKS: Well, I guess, in my view, the reason the flag should come down is just a matter of civic politeness. I have said this before on this program. If a large percentage of your fellow citizens disapprove of something, fine, just be civically polite and accept their offense and say, no, I’m going to respect you.
In both these issues, there is a large culture war element. What Donald Trump was exploiting was the fact that people like us and people like my newspaper would come down hard on him for saying those things about immigrants....

The “RACE WAR” started on the day Obama was elected. From that day forward every attempt to tear our country apart was based upon stacking his cabinet and higher offices of government with blacks, Latinos, women and communist/socialist enablers.
The war began back then and now the sleepy Americans are just now waking up and saying “what the hell happened? Where is the freedom and liberty I used to have?”
The ignorant who did not follow what was really happening in our government were too busy watching sports, playing games in their basements, protesting anything that was a part of our American heritage and downright stupidity and ignorance of our Constitutional rights...and worse yet...why did we have them in the first place.
“You make your bed and lay in it to sleep” as the old saying goes and now their bed is a pig wallow and they can lay down in pig poop and enjoy the fruits of their labors.
