Republican and former governor to join GOP primary next month. Former U.S. Sen. Jim Webb announced plans to seek the Democrat nomination.

A growing list of Republicans looking to be the next U.S. president will soon add one more name to the list: Jim Gilmore.

The former Virginia governor from 1998-2002 told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that he’ll announce his campaign in the first week of August.

“I bring to the table experience that others don’t have,” Gilmore told the paper.

Gilmore is the second Virginian to announce a presidential campaign. Former U.S. Sen. Jim Webb recently announced he’d seek the the Democrat nomination. Both are considered long shots.

Jim Gilmore had first sought the GOP nomination in 2008, but ended his campaign early in the primary.

There are already more than a dozen candidates in the 2016 Republican primary, including Jeb Bush, Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, Chris Christie, Rand Paul, Bobby Jindal, Mike Huckabee, Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina, George Pataki, Rick Santorum, and Rick Perry.

That does it. I’m running. I don’t want to be the only American not in the race.

Another one? Why not, I guess. Maybe he’s getting in to take out the top conservative in the VA primary.

Ex-Gov. Gilmore got the worst drubbing for a so-called first tier Senate candidate in Virginia since the GOP became viable again in the modern era (getting 33.7%(!) of the vote against Mark Warner in 2008). He’d be lucky to win a State House seat at this point, as running for President is delusional.

Fantastic!

Jimmie Dale is a great musician. I had the pleasure of seeing him in a small club many years ago.

“I bring to the table experience that others don’t have,” Gilmore told the paper.

He continued, "Rick Santorum got his butt kicked in a Senate race but I was REALLY taken out back and horsewhipped. You thought Pataki had no rationale for running, I really blow him out of the water!"

Only 13 5 to have my picture taken with Jeb? I’d be a fool NOT to go! But first I have to drink a couple cans of lead-based paint.

Must be a lot of money to be made just by running. Nothing else makes any sense.

I just watched ESPN the Steve Bartman story. At Planet Fitness on the treadmill.

It ruined my workout and made me depressed. And I am not even a Cubs fan.

Now, I can never be happy until the Cubs win the World Series again.

the candidacies that make the least sense are Graham and Santorum.

most of the others I can at least see some sense to their pipe dream.
