Appearing before a room full of Democratic partisans in his first speech as a 2016 Senate candidate, Rep. Patrick Murphy compared Republican Sen. Marco Rubio to conservative firebrand Allen West, took jabs at the tea party and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and cheered the prospect of a Hillary Clinton presidency.
Murphy, who announced his Senate candidacy last week, made a brief appearance at Thursday nights Palm Beach County Democratic Party meeting in West Palm Beach.
Murphy was elected in 2012 by presenting himself as a moderate alternative to outspoken conservative West, unseating the Republican in a district where the GOP has a slight registration edge. Throughout his first term in the House, Murphy highlighted his willingness to reach across the aisle and vote with Republicans on some issues, including delaying portions of Obamacare.
Murphy criticized hyper-partisanship in his remarks Thursday and said compromise shouldnt be a dirty word. But he also played up his Democratic credentials as he braces for a potential Democratic Senate primary challenge from liberal Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Orlando.
Murphy stressed hes for comprehensive immigration reform, increasing the minimum wage, abortion rights, equal pay for women and gay marriage.
People have said to me Why are you running against Marco Rubio or whomever his tea party replacement might be? They say he might be hard to beat and we have to take on the whole national tea party movement, Murphy said.
But I have two words for them: Allen West. Weve done this before.
Murphy added: The Senate is full of Allen Wests, including Marco Rubio.
He said Rubio supported immigration reform, but apparently a small group of tea party obstructionists were against it so he changed mind.
Murphy noted Democrats need to pick up five seats to recapture control of the Senate.
Lets take back the Senate, Murphy said. Lets make sure we send Ted Cruz back to the minority. Lets send Marco Rubio home. Lets make sure Hillary Clinton is the next president of the United States of America.
If we’ve lost Patrick Murphy, we’ve lost the White House.....
Taking a play from their own playbook -
WHY DOES HE HATE BLACKS?
He told Rubio to go back to Cuba as well.
YAAAWN! Wake me up when he says something new.
Murphy stole the election from West, and the supervisor of elections was the accomplice. Of course the dolts in the Florida legislature gerrymandered the seat away from West, too.....
What Senate is this guy talking about? The only Senate that I know of is full of Benedict Arnolds.
I wish.
Has that spoiled rich kid ever had a real job?
I’m sure we didn’t see Pat Murphy in Iraq, or military service. Why?
Jail, yes!
A Murphy vs. Grayson race is like a Jeffrey Dahmer versus Charles Manson affair.’
Or, as a proctologist might say, “It is like two assholes fighting for the same toilet seat”.
I just made this up but you can quote me without attribution if you want to. Or you could say it’s from a guy who worked for a Republican congressman who, long ago, held this congressional seat before the Democrats flooded the district and elected hemorrhoids to Congress)
I second your wish. Instead we have a bunch of Democrats in R jerseys who pretend they are conservative for 6 months before the election.
Allen West would be a great Senator. We need more like him.
That, in my never to be humble opinion, is the worst thing that could ever happen to this country for at least 50 years.
You are SO right!!!! More votes than there were registered voters in St. Lucie County!!! And there were some issues with counting leaving the idea open that they were trying to find out how many votes to fabricate for a Murphy win!
oh good another Florida cray cray.....just what we need
And of course when I saw his statement I thought from your mouth to God’s ears....if only it were true
Racist...
And, our prisons are full of Hillary-Clinton’s, except that those people don’t have allies-in-power to protect them from prosecution for their crimes.
Bingo. If only!
Seems like an islamist facilitator to me.
If only that were true.
