Texas Governor-elect Greg Abbott (R) says he will sign a bill to legalize the open carry of handguns as soon as the legislation reaches his desk. Abbott spoke to reporters in Austin the morning after he won the Lone Star State's gubernatorial election.

According to WFAA 8 ABC, Abbot said: "If an open carry bill is passed by the House and Senate, I will sign it into law."

Abbott added, "If open carry is good enough for Massachusetts, it's good enough for Texas."(continued)

Go for it, Greg!

Me, personally, I don’t want to open carry except at a range, as I believe that it makes you a target. However, I also believe that it is part of the “bear” part of the 2nd Amendment.

Now, Governor-Elect Abbott, if you really want to impress me, tell the legislature to pass a bill that automatically deputizes every CHL holder as a member of the Texas State Militia, and which further authorizes every member thereof to own a full auto firearm (in case of invasion), and THEN I’ll be impressed. Such would, of course, be a nice work-around for the Section 922(o) ban on post-’86 full autos, and at least several hundred thousand Texans would get happy switches or brand new guns (all of which would help the state’s econony - plus, as a bonus, it’d make the heads of all the libs explode).

There’s a 3D printer for that already.

YES! Abbott is the only one that wrote me back about the federal over-reach on stopping cars for random drug tests, including blood tests.

He was a damn good AG, and he'll be a damn good governor.

Good. If you can carry legally, then you should also be able to open carry just as legally.
Whether you do or not is still your choice.
I'd like to see people stop freaking out over a gun in a holster.

For full auto? I know that there's a program for an 80% receiver (plus the printer, of course).

Personally, I'd like it if it was at least nominally legal to own, since I'd rather avoid a SWAT raid on my home. Yes, I know, the law itself is illegal per the 2nd Amendment, but I don't have SWAT teams at my beck and call.

6 shooter? I can highly recommend the S&W 686+, which shoots 7. Mine has a Performance Center trigger. I have a Galco rig for it, and that is one gun I cannot see myself parting with until I leave this earth.

I’m surprised to learn that Texas doesn’t already have an open carry law. What’s Gov Perry been doing the past 14 years?

Oh, I know the semis are fully legal. It is the full autos that I am addressing. Those they send SWAT raids for, if you don’t have it legally and they find out.

As for your AK, wonderful! Too bad you lost it in that boating accident.

A lot of people are surprised by Texas gun laws. As to what Perry has been doing, not a whole lot.

Yup, Texas gun laws are actually decently bad considering handguns. But why would Perry be doing anything? He's not up for election so there's no need for him to talk all conservative!
