Republican Populism—or Republican Destruction
PJ Media ^ | 10-19-2014 | Victor Davis Hanson

Nothing much the Republicans have done explains why they are on the verge of taking back the Senate and making gains in the House. (Emphasis mine)

Not since the summer of 1974 or October 1980 have we see a presidency in a total meltdown. Abroad, ISIS, Putin, and the bullying Chinese have revealed that the Obama administration is either clueless or has subordinated foreign policy decisions to rank politics — or both. At home we have Ebola. Meanwhile, the list of corrupt, incompetent or politically rogue federal agencies keeps growing — the VA, ICE, the NSA, the IRS, the Secret Service … even the Patent and Trademark Office. Each day we learn yet another story about how corrupt Eric Holder’s Justice Department is ......

(snip)

Allowing flights to Monrovia, Liberia, follows the same sort of script that told us Benghazi was a spontaneous demonstration caused by a right-wing video maker. Susan Rice still goes on Sunday television shows and tells whoppers. Another partisan czar, Ron Klain, knows little about what he is supposed to salvage other than to finesse the politics of disaster — reminding us of Rahm Emanuel’s “never let a serious crisis go to waste.” ......

(snip)

“Obama did it” is for now an effective campaign slogan. Referencing low taxes/smaller government is wise. The need for a credible military is essential. But if the Republicans wish to make permanent inroads among the middle class, the young, and the poor, they must argue that more gas and oil, closed borders, moderate interest rates, free speech, and reasonable access to firearms are populist issues, which is why the Democratic Party of the very rich cares so little about them.

Lots of articles, analyses have detailed Obama and Dem failures. But what have (had) Republicans done? Do they even want to 'make permanent inroads' as described by VDH?

Convince me.

There just isnt any substantive difference between the 2 parties: both spend like drunken sailors, both want open borders, both want amnesty, both want ultimate power over the Little People back home and the list goes on and on and on. The only true difference is the speed at which they want to enact their common agenda. Despite what the RINO fan boys here say Romney would have been just as much a failure as Barry. Thats OK tho b/c he’s their despot...but a depot is still a despot tho.

“Convince me. “

They are the minority party in the senate so nothing can be done there. In the house, as the majority, they can vote for anything they want to vote on. Then it goes back to the senate.

If they open their mouths, the media will destroy them. See how well that worked out in 2010, 2012. IMHO, Republicans are keeping their mouths shut because if they do not speak, they cannot be vilified inthe media.

Most Americans already know what is happening. They have seen Obama and Co. destruction. At this stage of the game, why should Republicans say anything? Let the rats actions speak for themselves.

The Republican brand is the “Oldsmobile” of political parties. They need creative aggressive marketing guys. Dump the Beltway Consultants.

That is their problem. The people running these campaigns don’t often have any experience outside of Washington and rather than engaging retail marketing they engage friend of a friend and fill their campaigns with polisci kids of friends many who have absolutely no allegiance to a Republican or Conservative philosophy let alone marketing it so of course they don’t. Nothing is more illustrative of this than what happened in the McCain campaign when he had his campaign manager resign because he couldn’t with good conscience get tough on Obama.

This is why Republicans lose and are rudderless->
