Dallas, Texas (CNN) -- In the afterglow of Chris Christie's smashing re-election win last November, a chorus of big-name Republicans heralded the charismatic New Jersey governor as the party's savior in 2016.
Not everyone was so enamored.
Just days after the election, Texas Gov. Rick Perry appeared on national television and poured cold water on Christie's impressive victory.
"He was a successful governor in New Jersey," Perry said on ABC's "This Week." "Now does that transcend to the country? We'll see in later years and months to come. We're all different states. Is a conservative in New Jersey a conservative in the rest of the country?"
The comments made headlines, but were largely seen as just another predictable potshot fired off by one likely presidential contender jockeying for position with another.
But Perry's curt dismissal belied a much deeper resentment toward Christie -- and thrust a long-simmering tension between two of the Republican Party's biggest personalities into public view.
It is a rivalry that continues today and colors many of the political discussions inside the usually drama-free Republican Governors Association, the powerful fundraising committee currently helmed by Christie...

I am not a big Rick fan but I’d take 10 of him over one Crispy.
Uh, Chris Christie, the Islamist appointer, is NOT a Conservative.
“I am not a big Rick fan but Id take 10 of him over one Crispy.”
At least the weight would be the same!
I like Rick Perry, and I'm sure this will be played as pettiness on his part, rather than the fact that Christie is no friend to the 2nd amendment, or many other things that are important to Texans.
I won’t.
I will put both of them in a cargo container and heave it off the deck.
More propaganda from the Extreme Left at CNN, but I repeat myself.
They know, just as we know, that Chris Christie is a pretend Republican.
No conservative who pays any attention at all to current events support Chris Christie.
His policies are progressive Left in nature; he is part of the “Greedy Republican” wing of liberal Republicans.
No thought or support for the classic conservative policy positions of Limited Government, or Social Conservatism.
Just another Crony Capitalist more concerned with what the Chamber of Commerce wants vs. representing the people of the US, you know, it’s citizens.
Good.
I live in Texas. Perry has his faults but I would take 100 Perry’s to 1 Chris Christie. That’s just me. Don’t even get me started on Wendy Davis!
Rick really had me going and believing he would win, until he began having that unfortunately unbroken string of Brain Freezes during the debates. Remember those? I do. The freezes were rationalized away due to his recent back surgery. The presumption was that he was too doped up and tensed with back pain to make a go of it. I respect him for wanting to run, but if you are starting this long grueling campaign as not physically fit, in fact, not sufficiently recovered from surgery, what are you doing here now, embarrassing yourself and your party. Rick may be one of those people who even before the back surgery, is prone to campaign poorly, but will govern very well. Lots of that type in the GOP.
Much as I am suspect of Perry, I agree that Krispy is 10x worse.
Rock is in better shape and a straight shooter.
Krispy just shoots his mouf off and thinks “round” is a shape.
I have to disagree. If Obama had had a brain freeze, it would have been ignored. This was the way to marginalize Rick Perry. The idea that a momentary mental lapse disqualifies you from the presidency is silly. We let the msm and the Eastern GOP establishment have their way. No candidate can be a true conservative. The day we stop letting these people push us around is the day that we are going to get a good candidate.
I hope Rick jumps into the Pres. pool....I think he will be so much better than he was after his back surgery.
Welcome to FR!
Ha, ha.............that makes three of us!
