I wonder where my check is. Companies and government agencies often try to settle lawsuits out of court. In many cases they are much cheaper. That is until the government takes over. The original bill on Pigford was introduced by Senator Barack Obama. The courts reviewed the case and eventually the Supreme Court ruled that 91 farmers were deserving of settlements based on racial bias. No one can argue that was not fair. Discrimination did take place.
But in 2009, Bob Menendez threatened to shut down the settlement unless thousands of Hispanics were added to the payoffs and Obama then removed all conditions that were used to detect fraud. This is very reminiscent of the way he has handled welfare, food stamps and many other government giveaways. The original 91 complainants were to receive 50k each for a total payout of $45,500,000. A lot of money, but it was to correct unfair practices of the past

As gomer said: Surprise surprise
How about this proposal, the government get together an assassination squad and put out a notice that anyone found to have gotten a fraudulent payment, by the administrative review committee, is going to be liquidated. I wonder how quick some of those funds come back, or at least the big screen TVs, cars or other things which was bought with it.
Yes, until you look closely and see that the Government "farm subsudies" which were granted to some White farmers, and denied to some Black farmers (the basis of this original claim of "discrimination") resulted in Blacks being given the $50K (some of them received several $50K chunks...) despite the fact that they were not actually "farmers," but in reality based their claim that they were deserving "farmers" because they had "potted plants" in the windows of their inner-city apartments.
This scandal alone would have gotten any GOP president dragged before an Impeachment committee. But Big Pimpin' Barrio Bummer, The Mack Daddy in da White Hut, he kaint be unpeached lessen the natives revolt and cause riots an' setch.
I'm gonna hurl...

Democrats are NOTHING but CORRUPT LIARS!!
This otherwise excellent article is marred at the beginning by a serious math error. Fifty thousand times 91 is $4,550,000 not $45,550,000.
I remember all the hullaballoo about “Pigford II”
Absolutely NO documentation of farming required. You had to assert that you (or someone you’re descended from who was either hispanic or a woman) had TRIED farming and MAY have not been informed of programs. And the payout was $50K, tax-free, minimum.
We actually thought about it, because my wife’s mother AND grandmother had a family farm, generally used to feed the family. For about 5 seconds. And then, integrity kicked in. . .
and this is news???
