Ted Cruz led Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst by 9 points in a recent internal poll conducted for the former Texas solicitor generals campaign, a Cruz source has confirmed.
From the earliest days of the race to replace retiring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R), Dewhurst has been the frontrunner. But in this survey, 49 percent of respondents said they would vote for Cruz. Forty percent supported Dewhurst, and 11 percent were undecided.

I see Dewhurst has started up his attack ads again.
Dewhurst has been running only one ad and that accusing Cruz of supporting a China company over a US company. However, that has worn very thin, and has actually improved Cruz’s name recognition.
Texas, July 31, 100+ degree temps and a sparse runoff ballot will make it interesting to see which candidate can get out his supporters. The winner may come from which candidate can get the 65+ age group to use mail in ballots for this runoff.
Thanks, great news. I have my fingers crossed that Cruz can take the CINO down.
Dewy’s been peddling that line from day one.
Cruz should not have released that poll. In a run-off election, stealth is your friend.
Having said that, the grainy, amateurish Dewhurst TV ads won’t have much effect. Most Texans are watching the clouds for rain and/or waiting for football to start. They are sick of politics after the endless primary season.
That add is what made me switch my support to Cruz. It’s so completely bogus that I lost all respect for Dewhurst.
” - - - vote in the July 31 runoff.”
MARK YOUR CALENDARS, TEXANS!
Ted Cruz looking good.
All the momentum seems to scream Cruz.
The Establishment is not amused.
It’s an internal; I hope it’s not that far off.
Two new polls show Ted Cruz ahead of David Dewhurst:
Ted Cruz leads Dewhurst 47%-38% in poll by Wenzel Strategies (commissioned by the Citizens United Political Victory Fund, a PAC that endorsed Cruz): http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0712/78441.html
Ted Cruz leads Dewhurst 49%-44% in independent poll by Democrat pollster PPP: http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2012/07/cruz-leads-in-texas-runoff.html
The run-off is July 31, and it appears that Cruz is peaking at the right time.
Dewhurst is an establishment, go-along-to-get-along type of guy, while Cruz is a grassroots conservative and constitutional scholar with the skills and profile to win the general election handily and become a conservative superstar in the Senate. I think Cruz immediately will become a force within the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the only thing stopping him from eventually becoming its chairman is if he is named to the U.S. Supreme Court first.
I don’t live in Texas and I don’t pretend to have followed this race from its inception, but what I have read tells me that Cruz has all the momentum and will probably beat the establishment down there.
PTL and pass the Ammo!
“Two new polls show Ted Cruz ahead of David Dewhurst”
Bump.
The mood is probably getting pretty desperate in the Dewbious campaign now. What can he do? Try to spend more millions? He has no issues to run on and nothing damaging on Cruz. This looks to be another Mourdock/Lugar race in the making with the longshot heading for the finish line with a lot of momentum.
Great news!
