Sarah Palin's smart not to run, supporters say [Most commented]

Sarah Palin wasn’t ever really going to run for president, was she? That’s Donald Craig Mitchell’s guess. In an Op-Ed that discusses Palin’s decision not to run, Mitchell says she’s long prioritized her celebrity career over her commitment to public office, reminding us of Palin’s lucrative deals that followed after she quit as Alaska’s governor, including a seven-figure contract with Fox News.

After three years of tweeting, hinting and eyelash-batting, on Wednesday Sarah Palin announced that she was not running for president. Her Facebook friends are disappointed. But for Sarah-watchers in Alaska like me, the announcement was long expected, old news. […]

For the past two years that's how Palin has spent most of her time: promoting books, making paid television appearances, giving paid speeches. During that time she made no effort to establish campaign organizations on the ground in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. Nevertheless, with the filing deadline for the New Hampshire primary election less than a month away, until Wednesday millions of Americans were still wondering about her intentions.

While some readers on our discussion board side with Mitchell — and also express relief that Palin isn’t joining the race — others have used the space to support Palin’s decision. Here’s a sampling.

Props to Palin for choosing high-paying gigs — obviously something lazy liberals don’t understand

As someone who supported Sarah Palin and wished she had run I can assure you I don't feel scammed....

And he didn't even write them . . . nor did Hitlery Clintoon write her screwed up books . . . hell, she even stiffed the authors!

I just think that there're a number of scumbags out there that would love to be the one remembered as having assassinated her. Nobody deserves that . . . I'd love to see her in a RNC spot where she can poke the libtards in the eyes every day.

I think that she did the smart thing.

It gives more time to argue with Journalism to put on a clean pair of underwear and get rid of the pair with all those skid marks masquerading as journalists.

How can I not be disappointed?

America's down two outs bottom of the ninth after the MSM Beasty Boys have fanned our best hitter. Who else have we got left in the dugout? Maybe we've got a gimpy Kirk Gibson who can limp up to the plate and hit a game winning home run against the best reliever in the game (1988 World Series).

I love Sarah and love our country. Who am I to judge her for wanting to protect her family from the ravenous wolves of the Left?

America is in God's hands where it always has been. We dare not look to man. Scripture says cursed is the man that puts his trust in man but blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord. May God have mercy on our beloved country.

If the risk of being assassinated keeps someone from running for President. Our country is royally screwed beyond repair.

nobody should back down because of that. I would rather get shot than lose my freedoms and lose my country.

There is one office I would want her to run for...the chair of the RNC.

I totally agree. But the hatred from the left of this woman is beyond anything I've seen in years. I would hate to sacrifice her well being to the leftist a$$holes.

Add to that to kick the Old Establishment out of the RNC and I am with you.

If he thinks that Sarah never REALLY considered running, then he thinks that she is a fraud. Why would he ever consider himself a “supporter” of such a person? Bob

2ndDiv You know me as being a long time Palin supporter, in fact I was a big fan of hers long before McCain picked her. I can honestly say that I breathed a sigh of relief when she confirmed what I already thought, that she was not going to run. The reason was, I fear for her life or the lives of her dear family. The hatred for her is at such a level that somebody on the Left is going to try to become a hero and do something very drastic. This fear was elevated when I saw Bristol get harassed horribly at that LA bar a couple of weeks ago. And it now appears like that was a planned set up.

God Bless the Palin’s no matter what road they go down in life. I would love to be able to meet them in person sometime.

Amazing how her years of non-celebrity public service is totally ignored.

For the past two years that's how Palin has spent most of her time: promoting books, making paid television appearances, giving paid speeches. During that time she made no effort to establish campaign organizations on the ground in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

Why are some folks so fixated on the fact that Sarah worked hard to make some money for her family, after leaving the Governorship in AK? What did they expect her to do, start running for President and live off a PAC? I think she DID consider running for President, and thought long and hard about it. In the end, she decided to listen to the voices within her family; as she should have. She has many years ahead of her to try for the office. In the meantime, she'll continue to press those are in office to reduce government spending and regulation, and work for MORE conservatives in Congress to reach that goal.

I'm sure your bravado would go a long way toward assuaging the grief Sarah's family would feel if some nutburger decided to remove her from the race in a violent and immediate way. /s

It was the right call for this election cycle particularly if Obama wins like I suspect.

I didn't know about that. I understand Sarah's decision completely! But if this was a set-up, I can guarantee you that Sarah WILL be loaded for bear, and won't be going away anywhere in the next few years. She may not be running for President, but she will be working hard for conservative candidates.
