Perry reels after Florida flop
The Politico ^ | September 25, 2011 | Alexander Burns and Maggie Haberman

ORLANDO – The alarm bells are ringing for Rick Perry’s presidential campaign.

The Texas governor, who leaped to the top of national polls immediately after his August kickoff, finds himself suddenly reeling from a pair of setbacks in the country’s most prominent political battleground.

First, Perry drew a round of scathing reviews for his unfocused debate performance in Orlando Thursday night. Then he suffered a thumping defeat in the Florida GOP’s straw poll – to long-shot candidate Herman Cain, no less – that amounted to a vote of no confidence from dissatisfied activists.

The back to back stumbles added up to the worst week of Perry’s still-young White House bid, and left party strategists wondering what he can do to bounce back.

“Perry’s showing in the straw poll was disastrous. He was here, he worked the crowd, and it just proves that the debate performance really undermined his support,” said Republican pollster Tony Fabrizio, who was at the straw poll in Orlando this weekend. “Perry’s gotta retool, reorganize and retrench very quickly.”

Said one prominent conservative activist: “They’ve really got to go into damage control mode and right this ship, and they’ve got a relatively brief amount of time to do it. And if they don’t, I think he’s done.”

The line coming from the Perry campaign is just the opposite. Perry is little more than a month into the race, his advisers say, and he has proven that his message can resonate powerfully. Their view is that unlike Mitt Romney, Perry still has plenty of room to grow his support.....

I liked how Perry was taking the fight to Obama originally...but I’m really not interested in another Texas Governor who’s soft on illegal immigration.

Obama is such a nightmare that I’m disappointed that the GOP field is so uninspiring.

Aw, good grief, it is too early to call any candidate a flop or toast.

Herman would be a far better president than either “compassionate conservatve” Perry or downright liberal 0bama (not too) lite Mittens.

Romney’s “big win” in Michigan can be discounted as well. The Mackinac center poll is hardly representative of anything beyond a tiny political class in Michigan. They’re genetically predisposed to vote for Romney and will vote for him even if he isn’t running.

A candidate who actually shows an interest in coming and talking to the folks instead of stepping over us will do well. I can only think of one GOP candidate in recent history who has shown any interest in doing that.

Let’s see how many articles you post from Politico if Palin gets in the race.

Perry has indeed “stumbled” but politicians only “reel” in news column headlines.

I haven’t reeled in quite a while.

The POLITICO article is pro-Obama and pro-Romney.

Rather than stating what the PEOPLE cheered for,
rather than stating what the PEOPLE voted for,
the lying MSM says:
"Perry drew a round of scathing reviews
for his unfocused debate performance in Orlando Thursday night.""

implying it was because:
“We will continue to take our message of being a consistent conservative,
who has a proven record of creating jobs and fiscal
discipline to Washington,” said Perry strategist Dave Carney"

“Henry Barbour also argued Perry is the “authentic conservative” in the race"

Nonsense, the PEOPLE are done with RINOs
and any party that dares bring one to the party.

Perry was simply awful. If you can't defend your positions forcefully, I don't want you. We had that in Bush and it was a disaster. We can't nominate such a candidate because he will not win!

Lets be clear. The dems and media want Perry or Romney. Just like they wanted McCain. Then they ripped him to shreds. They have been doing this for years. Let not your heart be troubled. Cain can win against Obama. He is the only true conservative That Can Win. Obama’s record us abysmal. They have little to argue. Experience? Like the big O had ANY?? Remember we are going after a corrupt (voter fraud, illegal contributions) billion dollar candidate. Very few can win under those circumstances. Our candidate needs the least amount of issues. Cain comes from a humble background (diffuses class warfare). Can’t use race card. What’s left? These are Obama’s main talking points. Cain can think on his feet. He is a wizard in stats math and economics. He talks from the heart. Honest Calm Articulate. I am in and I intend to fight like he.ll for him. You want to talk energized? Did you see the faces of the delegates when Cain was announced? They were Euphoric!!!!!

Seems like it was more of a disaster for Mitt since he supposedly won the debate.

This is what the debates are supposed to do: expose the weakness of each candidate as well as give them a forum to tout their strengths.

If we find out things about a candidate that cause us to take a step back, then the system is working.

While Perry would be my fourth choice for other reasons, I disagree about choosing a president based on his debating skills. We have a slick appearing public speaker now as president, and he's an unmitigated disaster whose incredible arrogance and willful ignorance leads him to try and destroy the institutions that have made this country successful.

We have to be happy right now with the knowledge that any of our candidates will be better than zero.

Unfortunately, its unlikely a black candidate from either party will win the nomination any time soon due to zero playing the races card incessantly.

Ten years ago we were all Americans first, race came down the line.

Today the regime has succeeded in separating the races for political gain once more. Sad day for America.

Somewhere in Wasila, Alaska there's a white horse being groomed and saddled.

Romney is a complete non-starter for conservatives, Perry seems only marginally better and has badly stubbed his toes, can't say anything negative about Cain except that being a private sector CEO is not the same as being a political chief officer of a government (at any level), and Bachmann is completely out of her depth.

Waiting to join the fray, like so many of her "unconventional" moves, is looking more and more like good strategy.

I don’t know where you were ten years ago but where I was the Democrats were playing the race card at every turn. Clinton played it and Gore played it. Kerry played his card in the 2004. No, that deck of cards has been around for a long time, shuffled and dealt whenever it suited them.

Somewhere in Wasila, Alaska there's a white horse being groomed and saddled......
Waiting to join the fray, like so many of her "unconventional" moves, is looking more and more like good strategy.

Governor Palin remains mostly quiet…..she is waiting....she (and only she) knows her battle plan....she (and only she) knows her timing.....she is learning....studying the opposition....guarding the "cubs"....waiting quietly with an occasional "roar"…..reconnoitering the challengers and enemies from within and without.....studying weaknesses....building and conserving her own strength....endlessly practicing....reading...honing her skills.....waiting.....waiting…

This war has not yet begun. What has been seen of the other candidates to date has been nothing but minor and irrelevant skirmishing. Candidates in...candidates out....candidates winning....candidates losing.....candidates saying silly things.....candidates saying cogent, insightful things.....candidates being personally attacked by the msm (including fox) and the largely irrelevant, faux intelligencia (rove, krauthammer, morris, olberman, matthews, etc).....candidates being dismissed by the msm…..candidates attacking one another instead of concentrating on the real issues and the very real enemy.

It is yet a very long way yet to November, 2012. There is no need to rush. Keeping her own council Mrs. Palin smiles knowingly, and trusting in the loyalty of her supporters, remembers the words of Napolean, "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." and General Patton, "Our basic plan of operation is to advance and to keep on advancing regardless of whether we have to go over, under, or through the enemy. We are going to go through him like crap through a goose; like shit through a tin horn!"

When she arrives, you can count on total war. She has learned how to fight. She has been through this before.....all the way to election day (read her account of the 2008 campaign in her book). She does not spin; she attacks, all the time.....constantly; she does not back away from principles; she means exactly what she says...and says exactly what she means. She built and continues to add to her base of support because of who and what she is....not because of who or what she panders to.

Patience.....patience....

Wait for it!

And keep the faith....
