What the GOP needs to be taught is that hispandering never gets hispanic votes for the Republican Party, loses elections, and hurts the country. Rick Perry is more likely to support a path to legal status for illegal aliens than Bachmann or even Romney. I don’t think we need W 2.0 as our nominee.

...earlier this year he called for a state law to abolish sanctuary cities....

Perry could have passed that bill if he wanted to but Bob Perry was against it.

Rick Perry will be another Obama. He will say and do anything to be elected. He also wants more drones on the border, drones are here and agents way over there.Drones see drug smgllers but cannot use fire power to stop them. Drones are like the National Guard, they can only look, spot & report..Perry is another SELL OUT.. In my opinion...

Rick Perry = George W. Bush’s third term. Another “compassionate conservative who is more interested in what’s best for Mexico rather than the United States. Who cares what U.S. residents think as long as Vincente Fox and Phillipe Calderon are happy?

Downside is this will drive the issue to the left or keep it on the left amongst the GOP candidates.

Hispanic Tejanos have long been part of the Texas culture, before Texas was a state or a republic. I live in Texas, speak Spanish, have decent appreciation for their customs, etc. The vast majority of the Tejano citizenry population are hard working, family oriented, and fairly conservative on the political spectrum. Illegal aliens crossing the border are an entirely different matter, especially because of the connection with the narcotrafficantes in Mexico and other criminal activity. It certainly is a national government job to enforce the borders, not a state matter. However, Texas has been obliged devote a very large state police effort supplemented by local county law enforcement and the Texas Rangers, to make up for the miserable job done by the feds on protecting the border. Law enforcement advises citizens in the areas impacted by high incidence of illegal alien incursions to be aware and be armed against violent risks from these criminals invading the country. Perry is a big second amendment supporter and carries a weapon sometimes. Perry has consistently called for federal intervention to curtail the illegal border crossings, and he’s right, that is Washington’s job to ensure the borders are controlled. As far as path to citizenship, Rick Perry would never do what Obama has done, that is, the Resident’s direction to the federal officials at Customs and Immigration to stop enforcing the law and deportations of illegal aliens.

I have lived abroad almost 10 years of my working career, and every country I ever lived in kept close track of my immigration status and permission to remain in country. How the US, one of the most wealthy nations in the world, can fail in that simple task, is incomprehensible.

Don’t worry. Rick’s packin’ heat in his FR shill photo ops. He’ll round up those illegals single handed once they use up their free Texas taxpayer funded college tuition.

There hasn’t been a good President on legal immigration since Coolidge, and on illegal immigration since Eisenhower.

And we still won’t have a good president on immigration if a Republican beats Obama next year.

No such thing as ‘’moderate’’ A ‘’moderate’’ man is a timid man, more apt to try and please everyone so as not to offend anyone. As I’ve said before , if this our candidate, then we’ve lost.

Perry is no different than McCain on immigration.

Even if you or Perry turn the economy around and end unemployment, illegal open-border immigration will eventually turn this country into a Third World hellhole and the jobless days of Obama will look like the good old times.

You CANNOT..in 2012...run ANY political campaign that is ambiguous about your immigration “position” in the current job market.

Unemployed Americans are looking for assurances of their governments’ concern about THEIR plight...not that of businesses forced into looking for disposable labor because of onerous tax and regulatory policy.

Illegal Labor is the Feds out for preserving the status quo regarding Taxes and Regulation...and is the ultimate litmus test as to the candidates in question commitment to meaningful regulatory and tax reform. If they are wishy-washy on the subject...they have no real intent to disturb the DC status quo...no matter how big their cowboy hat and six-gun.

I support a wall from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico.

Impenetrable.

Two fences, 12feet tall laced with razor wire up and down. Separated but 30ft and a two lane road between them with vehicle stations every five miles.

Cameras and sonic sensors for underground activity. Armed guard towers with orders to shoot every 500yds or so. At least 1 Vehicle moving in each 5 mile section at all times and a "Special Response" force every 200-300 miles with a platoon of Marines in helicopters.

Kill any and everything that tries to cross it, every time.

Then severely prosecute every business that is found to have hired an illegal. Take everything they have and put them in jail. If anyone gets pulled over, or otherwise raises the suspicion of LEO anywhere, ask to see their identity...and if not legal, turn them over to the Feds. The Feds must then put them to work maintaining the wall for 1 full year before deporting them. In every case.

Federal law banning ALL transfer payments from the Feds to any other govt entity that offers any benefit/payment to anyone who cannot prove their legal residency.

Amend the 14th Amendment.

Then, institute a "Guest Worker" program that allows folks into the US, with proper ID, for a period not to exceed 1 year to work...if they have a contract. Give those folks full driving rights etc. After 1 year they MUST return to their home country for a period not less than 6 months...after which they can reapply in "preferred status".

The US Military should take all volunteers who are proficient in English and can pass all tests/security screens. Full pay and benefits for the duration of their active service...and after 12 years of Honorable Services, eligible to apply for citizenship in "Preferred Status".

Anyone who can deposit $1million in a US bank can stay under "escrow" as long as they are not a criminal. They would be allowed 10%/yr for investment and living expenses after deposit. After 10yrs, they are free to apply in non-preferred status.

Now that's what I call a damn moderate approach.

RE :"In 2001, he signed a law allowing undocumented students who graduate from Texas high schools to pay in-state tuition at Texas public universities. Last year he criticized Arizona's strict new immigration enforcement law, and said that it wouldn't be right for Texas. He's called for a guest-worker program and a path to citizenship."

Rick Perry is not really for drones on the border. Big media hype, brothers. Our families back home have nothing to be concerned over.

What else can be expected of Big Government politicians these days! Makes this old traditional conservative veteran American want to just puke. Perry is no different, another big business professional politican hell-bent on selling out. He doesn't give a crap about you and me, legitimate citizens and tax payers, only to his crony business campaign contributors and the blue blood country club Republican 'RINO' Party. He is no conservative, the same thing I said about Dubya when he was masquerading as a compassionate conservative. Is that enough comment!? Damn, now I gotta go and take some blood pressure meds.
