It was an amazing night -- and morning -- as the final primary day of the summer delivered a series of upsets in Senate, gubernatorial and House races.
The Fix is still a little groggy from our live-blogging of the proceedings but we are never too tired to sift through election results to find some of the less obvious winners and losers from the primary night that was.

WINNERS
Sarah Palin: Just when it looked like her influence in Republican primary fights was fading, Palin came back with a vengeance last night -- as all five of her endorsed candidates appeared headed to victories including Alaska attorney Joe Miller who led Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski with 98 percent of precincts reporting. Both Murkowski and Miller blamed/credited Palin with the result, which is rightly seen as the biggest upset of the 2010 cycle to date. The message? In Republican primaries -- particularly small turnout affairs -- the energy and enthusiasm that Palin can help create is invaluable.
Kendrick Meek: Meek's wide victory over billionaire Jeff Greene in last night's Senate Democratic primary in Florida should convince (at least some) of the doubters who don't think he has a chance to be competitive against former state House Speaker Marco Rubio (R) and Gov. Charlie Crist (I) this fall. And, given the wildly unpredictable nature of the Florida political landscape, anyone who tells you what is going to happen next in the Senate race (or any race) in the state is just not telling the truth.

The blot created by her endorsement of McCain pretty much overshadows any good she might have done.
Also evident in the Florida AG race ... Bondi won and I am convinced Sarah’s phone calls made the difference.
I totally agree, this leaves a real, real bad taste in my mouth.
Senator McCain picked Governor Palin to be his running mate and quite possibly the Vice President of the United States of America. If she had backstabbed him you’d be on here complaining that she didn’t have any loyalty and was therefore not “presidential timber” for 2012.
You are wrong if you think that Palin’s endorsement of McCain made any significant difference in Arizona.
Otherwise, you can be sure that McCain, as a political pragmatist won’t stray too far off the ranch in a Republican controlled Senate. Nothing in it for him, “maverick” or not. He’ll play along to ensure his own status.
Since you’re not a Republican, what do you care?

You should be thanking the voters of Arizona, and if Mrs. Palin had not endorsed McCain, you and other knee-jerk anti-Palin types would be having a hissy fit over that. Face it.
No, she isn’t “presidential timber” because she isn’t presidential timber.
Why is loyalty to Washington politicians more important than loyalty to America and what’s in her best interest?
The problem with McPalin and her ilk is she doesn’t understand that.
It’s all about political favors and payback for her.
From her endorsement of McCain to her endorsement of Murkowski’s opponent.
It’s all about settling her own scores.
We don’t need another politician like that.
We’ve got enough of them in Washington already.
Remember, McVain carried his home state of Arizona by approximately the same percent that Obummer won nationwide. I beleive there are a substantial number of Arizona voters who chose to express their regret for voting for Obummer by voting for McVain.
Everyone, even Sarah Palin, deserves one mulligan with their critics. John McCain was her mulligan.
And don’t bring up Fiorina. Carly is now leading Boxer and was endorsed by pro-life groups. She may not be as conservative as some redneck types but she is a conservative.
As for McCain, I do NOT consider him a conservative but nevertheless Palin endorsed him and she has no more mulligans left.
Hell yes. Arizonans heard almost nothing but Sarah Palin's voice in praise of John Judas for months. Incessantly.
I look at it this way.
Even WITH a a Palin endorsement McCain had to spend 20 MILLION IN A PRIMARY just to stay alive.

I’m not big on political back-scratching.
That’s a big part of what’s wrong with American politics.
I think McPalin should have just stayed out of the race.
But she didn’t. She meddled in Arizona just as she meddled in California, and she endorsed RINOs in both states.
That’s my theory, too. He has no legacy now. He desperately wants to be remembered, and right now he’ll be remembered as the guy who handed the election to the guy who is destroying the Country. He sees Conservative issues are the way to popularity. He has been campaigning here in AZ with Jan Brewer, who is the new conservative darling...that is how I view this.
Well, I for one just cannot wait to see who you anti-Palin types think is the better candidate. Trouble is that you and your ilk rarely answer the question.

No, she's not. She's just lying like McCain. In fact, she is very much a McCain carbon copy.
