Why would anyone vote for the Republican party the way it is now?
The best they could do was McCain?

Exactly, nobody would

Nobody wants to vote for the party of big corporation

Nobody wants to vote for the party that doubled the national debt in 8 years

Nobody wants to vote for the party of people like Michelle Bachman, people that have no clue about economics and cannot articulate any rational solution

This party and the conservative movement have a very long way to go in re-gaining any traction in the electorate

Sticking to conservative principles and not sounding like a jackass when stating them is a start

The chatter comes primarily from the left in its effort to confuse the public about who, if anyone, speaks for the Republican party. Their effort includes propping up different talking heads as “spokesmen,” “party leaders,” “faces of the GOP,” and other such garbage.

Whores like Larry King, Couric, Lauer, are all engaged in the effort by hosting morons like Meghan McCain, hoping to pass her off as the “face” or “voice” of the “new” republican party, as part of the effort to keep the wagers roiling within the GOP. Other clowns, like Matthews, Olbersturmbahnermann, George Stuffanoliveuphisass, and half of the NYT writing doofazoids are busily engaged in suggesting new platforms for the GOP, in order to seem more “inclusive,” a code word for abandoning all principle.

There isn’t anywhere near as much confusion or rancor within the party as those on the left hope to suggest. It’s just part of the ongoing effort to misinform the public about the opposition to their version of Rev Moon, the guy in the White House.

“Their game is unplayable for anyone but them. Try to play that game and you lose. It is stacked against anyone who doesn’t toe the liberal line.”

The only way to play is to change the game.”

Exactly. IMO, James Carville might say today “It’s the fundamentals stupid!”.

The politicians have to put the scatter-gun up and work harder to get a focused message sent that reinforces the party’s fundamentals. (Ann Coulter once said in a speech that the GOP is the party for gays - they want lower taxes too!)

The first corrective measure. The politicians who go on tv have to challenge the premise of the media’s questioning and the “narrative” that is being pushed. Liz Cheney does as good as anyone right now. (Michael Steele allowed DL Hughley to contend that the GOP looked like Nazi Germany because everyone was white. Steele let it go.)

What the GOP needs is a product manager? When a company dilutes its brand, hardtimes inevitably result.

That will not win the majority Reagan forged. One of the great advantages the Dims hold currently is that many see little social difference between the two parties and no longer bother to vote. Reagan brought the social Conservatives over from the Dim party. Now that the GOP sounds the same on those issues, they have gone home.

The people who ran the Republican party for the last 8 years were completely unresponsive to everyone including their own base. they did nothing. Republicans now have no imagination, no ability to think out of the box, no ability to think past the next election, No talent at all for changing the territory. The media is overwhelmingly left and smears all conservatives and Republicans. they cannot do anything to organize their money people to find another Rupert Murdoch (or two or three ) and change the matrix. They have managed to set moderates and conservatives against each other because neither feels they are getting anything (only the country clubbers get anything). It is all a total disgrace. We lack good people who have political skill and talent.

I could not disagree more. Reagan’s themes of American exceptionalism, optimism, and the benefits of capitalism above collectivism are what won the majority Reagan forged.

The real advantage that the Dims hold now is that they’ve managed to demonize conservatives and Republicans have run away scared from it and destroyed their credibility. There are PLENTY of differences between the parties on social issues and everyone is aware of them. The lack of difference is on domestic policy and fiscal conservatism. And I’m tired of Republicrats who play us for fools by talking about God while selling our children into slavery just like the Rats.

In order to get build a GOP with credibility, we need candidates who can criticize the wrongs of BOTH parties without being hypocrites.

Libertarians want judges who don’t make law just like we do. So, the result on social policy is the same if not better. All that differs is how it is presented and the words used to convince people that our side is right.

“Most importantly, the GOP cannot abandon Life.”

As a Hispanic, I truly believe that Life is the strongest issue that we have right now. The Hispanic community is strongly pro-life.

Limited government should be our strongest issue, but we have really failed to articulate any workable version of cutting back on government. GWB allowed congress to spend, spend, spend, and we are paying the price now. Sure the GOP votes against spending now (at least most of them), but many people I know aren’t buying their commitment to limit government. To them, it is political, we want to spend when our guy is in office, and oppose spending with the other guy gains power.

There have to be many locally elected GOP officials, who have implemented great ways to limit government spending at the local level. The party needs to use these ideas to start creating an alternative budget plan (a good one, with innovative ideas) rather that just rejecting the DEMS.

As for appealing to minorities, Education is hugely important. A vast majority are in public school, and they want those schools to be good. (charter schools, vouchers) They want education that provides competitive skills, meaning strong student loan/grant programs., and vocational training programs for those who are not interested or able to go to college.

Health care is also an issue for my own minority community. A vast majority of them do not have health care benefits at their jobs. They do not make much money, so health savings accounts aren’t really an option. Many have pre-existing conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes, which prevents them from obtaining health insurance. They aren’t looking for handouts, they are proud and want to buy insurance for their families, they just have a hard time finding it, and what they find basically sucks.

The biggest complaint I hear is about basic respect. Most Hispanics support strong border security and enforcement of the laws on the books. They do not want their jobs to go to low paid illegal labor. What turns them off is when Hispanic or Latina is assumed to mean illegal. Or, when people say “Juan McCain” as an insult. Or, especially when any successful Hispanic or Black person is called the “affirmative action” case. English-only is also a big source of anger. (the reasons vary but it is something I hear a lot)

For those of you who will say Hispanics won’t vote GOP anyway, that is ridiculous. They will vote for the party they see as supporting policies that will make their lives better. They are mostly proud and hardworking Christian people, who came to this country legally and want the same things as most of us. They are natural conservatives, but they will not vote for someone who disrespects their culture of origin. Hispanics are a big and growing part of our electorate. I don’t think it is wise to ignore that fact.

This is when I start getting the hate mail. just remember I am only telling what I hear, not what I think.

Almost all indicators are pressing the Republicans into minority status

until people get sick and tired of paying taxes that are too high.

Wrong approach ~ in fact if you "don't give a damn about social issues" you lose about 89% of the Republican vote. No way to win an election even in a Blue State.

This is why Libertarians are doomed to existence as a fringe group forever.

Absolutely ridiculous statement. I guess those 89% of the Republicans would rather have someone who's the same as the Dems on social issues...oh well...

I guess it'll have to take a few more election cycles of embarrassing losses for you to get it. Watch what Peter Schiff does in CT for a couple of clues.

The economy, individual freedom, border security, judges who don't make law, and eradicating voter fraud are the issues that can be won on. Period. And Republicans have ZERO credibility on most, if any.

You, in fact, proposed that Republicans BE the same as the Democrats on social issues.

Frankly, Democrats don't care about social issues ~ they use them to get votes from our side but they lie. You'll never see the Democrats delivering the goods ~

Go back and see what you proposed.

You said: ".....start running ‘I don’t give a damn about social issues’ Republicans "

That's what a Democrat does.

Nonsense. I proposed nothing of the kind.

Our side doesn’t deliver goods on it either. Neither side is going to either, because it distracts everyone from the fact that the DAMN COUNTRY IS BEING DISMANTLED RIGHT IN FRONT OF US!

Put down the kool aid before you hurt yourself.

Umm...no. Democrats are called ‘pro choice’. It means they like killing babies and having judges make laws.

Maybe there’s something more in that kool aid than I thought...lol

"Almost all indicators are pressing the Republicans into minority status

.... until people get sick and tired of paying taxes that are too high.

That will be a long wait. The middle class is being destroyed. The upper class businessmen are being destroyed. The upper class will be limited to government bureaucrats. The rest will devolve into the lower class.

Classic results of commusism.

Lose/Lose for honest people. Either dirt poor or forced to become a government criminal opressing others.

The Founding Fathers were wise enough to not enfranchise certain people. Once we did, the days of a functioning republic were numbered.

Which people were the Founding Fathers "wise enough to not enfranchise"?

move away from being perceived as the party of the rich and corporations and truly become the party of the small business owner

Agreed.

Wishful thinking by Balz. That Obama didn’t win by more during the biggest financial panic since 1929 doesn’t say much for the Dems.
