Not only was the campaign McCarthy's idea, the Bakersfield Republican freshman helped finance it, writing a $10,000 check out of his ample campaign surpluses from his easy 2006 race to succeed former Rep. Bill Thomas.
Democrats blasted the attack ads as "desperate and misleading." But according to Republican leaders, the ad campaign was a huge success and has added immensely to McCarthy's luster as a rising star in the Republican ranks.
"It put us back on the offensive and was a big morale booster," said Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., chairman of the Republican caucus's political arm, the National Republican Congressional Campaign.
Just six months into his first term in Congress, McCarthy has become a valued player in the Republican drive to win back control of the House from Democrats.
McCarthy insists he is not trying to climb the leadership ladder, although he misses the attention he garnered as Republican leader of the California Assembly before his election to Congress in November. His only motivation, he says, is that "I want to be in the majority."
Still, McCarthy already has contributed $20,000 to the Republican Congressional Campaign and said he has raised $70,000 more selling tickets to fundraisers. His fundraising and strategizing, which started a year ago soon after his primary victory assured him of a seat in Congress, has earned him a national leadership role. He holds several committee assignments at the Republican Congressional Campaign, including a seat on the executive committee and a spot helping recruit promising GOP talent to run for the House.

He’s an improvement over the man he replaced, that’s for certain.
CA story here!
RINO Kevin ping.
Is he recruiting more moderates to squash conservatives, or is he truly doing a good thing?
Inquiring minds want to know!
He's recruiting moderates and conservatives with the goal of putting moderates in power. Keep in mind he and the Bill Thomas machine have a way of taking credit for candidates they had little or nothing to do with -- Dean Andal for one.
He's a fricking lap-dog clone of the man he replaced, but not as smart.
Outstanding. The man is DOING SOMETHING. This is leadership!!!
Ask him if he would want ROVE’s “job”- Since I assume it MUST be vacant since NO-ONE has SEEN/HEARD or Witnessed anything coming from that direction!
