Reuters Anti-Catholic Bias? Unflattering Photo of Mel Gibson Chosen for Story

Accompanying the story linked above was a most unflattering picture of Mel Gibson. The story dealt with the alleged "anti-Semitic" stance of Gibson's film Passion.
Here is the picture:
If this isn't a not so subtle way of moulding public opinion against Mel and his movie, I don't know what is. Why could Reuters not choose from one of the many "normal" publicity photos of Mel Gibson, such as the one shown below:
I suppose Reuters is attempting to link the two lifestyles most hated by liberals: Catholics and smokers.

Reuters, AP have always used pictures to transmit subliminal negative comentary. There was an excellent article about this during the 1992 election. They also did this during bush's trip in europe.

With the wealth of photographic material available, this can't be construed any other way than a slap at Gibson and his character. Can you imagine Al Gore getting such treatment, or any other leftist icon?
Gibson is an old school Catholic. This certainly isn't a complimentary photo for either Gibson or his views. And I think it's fair to say that slap goes against his Catholic foundations as well.
A.P. has about reached rock bottom.

Heck if the cigarrette was in a holder, he'd look like FDR!

Reuters is notorious. There are many recent examples of their extreme bias (example: their write-up of the pseudo-scientific analysis of Conservatives done by some pinhead professors at Berkeley.........and their write-up didn't even resemble the pinheads' press release).
I'd read the article to establish context for the clearly unflattering choice of pic of Gibson. I'll bet you a month's paycheck he's (the poster) right.

No doubt Reuters was trying its best to publish THE most unflattering pic ever. In their warped minds, they're hoping that because Mel has a nasty ol' cigarette in his mouth it will keep people from wanting to see The Passion. Libs are SOOOOO transparent and pathetic.

There's no such thing as an unflattering photo of Mel Gibson. Just my personal opinion, of course. ;-D

There are no unflattering photos of Mel. He looks cute even with a ciggie in his mug.

Wow. Great minds and all that. ;-)

Even for these guys, this is a head scratcher.
Their definition of bashing now has a face to go with it.

Of course!
Just as there is an unofficial rule around here that Coulter post must be followed by Coulter pix . I think Gibson posts should be followed by Gibson pix.
Any seconds??????

I agree Reuters is liberal. But I know Catholics that smoke and drink. Next they'll show someone crossing against a crosswalk signal and they'll be accused of bashing - where will it stop? It won't! Pointing out someone smoking who happens to be Catholic is not "catholic bashing", IMO. It is pointing out a person smoking. Oh. And they are Catholic.

Now I know why Mel's wife has had so many children!

Look, I think it's a personal call, so don't take this too serious. For what it's worth, I don't mind seeing pictures of Gibson smoking. Doesn't this photo seem a bit strange to to accompany a supposedly unbiased reporting of facts though? I've never even seen Gibson smoke before this. Why would they pick that photo? It's about as unflattering as it could be. I think that was the intent. Gibson is being described as an old school Catholic in that he doesn't recognize some of the reforms. I always wondered what an 'old school' Catholic looked like.
