The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Nope. Highland. The big loud obnoxious suckers.
They're actually pretty cool...from a distance.
To: Prof Engineer
Oh what a terrific picture!! And what fine and estimable Hobbit Holers you are!! Austin sure is a cutie!!

Grr....in spite of zinc and Vitamin C and all the rest, I now have a sore throat in addition to the chills. Ugh. Gonna hit the hay early and hope THAT catches it before it gets worse.
To: RosieCotton
I like Highland bagpipes...

...one who would even be willing to clean the kitty box... If'n wimmin want cats, they need to be willin' to clean out the box.
I ain't fondof a critter what dooks in the house... I know, I know... it's in the litter box... and then the expendable furball walks on yer counters, furniture... won't have it...
oh great... I got the 666... just call me natas...
To: g'nad
the 666 was preceded by a 7 which is a good number so I think you're ok.
Or at least you're hundreds of miles from me, which works out the same in the end.

We have cats. They do their thing, I clean, and they don't care much for counters (they're the cower-under-the-bed types). It's these blasted dogs that mess all over the place- weekend before last was projectile excretions. If only they'd learn to use the litter box! Fortunately they're not *my* responsibility ;).
Today must be the day for critter probelms.
I was at my mom's house, and looked out the back window. I saw what looked like a HUGH squirrel underneath the sunflower seed feeder. But it had a short, stubby tail. It finally dawned on me it was a groundhog.
I ran outside to chase it off, but it scurried away and vanished. Then I noticed a large hole in the ground right next to the chimney that wasn't there a couple of days ago when I cut the grass. The thing is digging a burrow right next to the outside of the basement wall!
I grabbed the garden hose, and started pouring water down the hole. After a couple of minutes on full volume, the groundhog stuck his head out of the hole, where I hosed him down some more, and he ducked back inside. But it was a standoff. I couldn't stay there forever with the hose.
So I went into the house, and found a bottle of industrial-strength Drano. My mom wouldn't let me shoot the groundhog, but had no objections to chemical warfare. If he was still in the hole, or was coming back to it later, he had a nasty suprise waiting for him.
So now I have to plan to eliminate the critter if he's still there tomorrow. I'd load up my "dressage show special" with .38 shotshells, but my mom is opposed because this is a built-up suburb. But she isn't opposed to me trying to cut him in half with a heavy-bladed ice chopper.
So it looks like I'll be there tomorrow to flush him out and terminate him. If anyone has a better idea, I'd appreciate it.

She's not into the American Graphic novels much. She likes the Japanese language Manga series. One of her favorites is 'D N Angel'. I think she said they're going to start publishing the English versions later in the Spring of 2004.
To: SuziQ
That's cool.
I'm going to bed now... see you all tomorrow!
