Dixie Chicks: Meet Merle Haggard

Posted on 03/16/2003 6:48:27 PM PST by SolutionsOnly

A perfect solution for radio stations...

TOPICS: Music/Entertainment
KEYWORDS:
Whenever a Dixie Chicks song comes up for play, swap it out for Merle Haggard's "Fightin' Side of Me"

Just a thought.

I don't particularly care for that Toby whats-his-name song, or the one by Darrell whats-his-face.

But "Fightin' Side Of Me" is a classic, and Merle Haggard will be remembered long after I've re-rememembered and re-forgotten the names of those other hacks.

Like I said: IMO, those other guys will be long forgotten, while Merle's songs will go on and on.

I think Toby Keith has staying power, but that's just pure, unadulterated opinion.

Toby Kieth = Country Rap. He can go at any time and leave no vacuum. But as you say, that's unadulterated opinion.

Out of curiosity, who among today's artists do you think will be around like Merle Haggard?

Hard to say. Since country has become more and more mainstream, the changes in style are far more rapid than before.

Daniels, Straight have been around a long time and are likely to stay. Brooks? Already fading. Cyrus? Sorry, I'll get serious.

Travis Tritt, maybe Aaron Tippin

And you're welcome to it. The proof of the pudding, as they say...

Did anyone take Billy Ray Cyrus seriously?

You're right about Garth Brooks, though - didn't last.
